Human Borg in DQ from Wolf 359?

The simplest explanation for how the Hansens knew stories about the Borg is that the El-Aurian refugees told about them when they arrived in Federation space in 2293.

And if you look at the dialogue in "Q Who?", there's nothing in it strictly saying that the Federation had no prior knowledge of the Borg. It could be that the Enterprise computer had records of the rumors and tales, but Picard preferred to use Guinan as his source of information about them because she was an eyewitness.

Guinan was not an eyewitness. She said so herself... everything she knew about the Borg was told to her.

Right, I misspoke. But she was as close to a direct source as they could get, and thus preferable to just reading computer files about other El-Aurians' accounts, since they could actually question her about it and draw out more. Hence, the fact that they used her as their source about the Borg doesn't rule out the existence of prior data about the Borg in the Starfleet database. And thus there's no inconsistency between "Q Who" and what was later established about previous knowledge of the Borg.
