Apparently, according to Deadline, Warner Bros. has moved "Godzilla vs. Kong" from its May 22 2020 opening to March 13 2020.

Considering "King of the Monsters"' release on May 31 of this year, we'll have two live-action Godzilla movies in less than ten months.

Interesting. KOTM was moved from a relatively low-profile, less competitive release window (March-April) to arguably the highest profile, most competitive one (May-June) which infers Warner Bros has confidence in the film. Now, if this article is accurate, the reverse has occured with GvK, so can we therefore infer a lack of confidence in that film, or is that just my own doubts about it talking?

Godzilla vs. Kong is still in the late stages of filming, before editing or reshoots have been done, so it seems too early for the studio to have reached any conclusions on how well it works.

Scheduling decisions are never about any single item in isolation; they're about weighing different items against each other and deciding what to prioritize. So maybe it's not that they lack confidence in GvK, maybe it's just that there's something else that they felt was more important to schedule for May. Or maybe it has to do with competition from other films coming out in that slot. Although it looks like the only films scheduled for May 22, 2020 are Fast and Furious 9 and yet another Spongebob movie.

Wonder Woman 2 is out 2 weeks after that original May date and since that's also a WB movie they probably just didn't wanna compete with themselves.

Considering the massive success of the last few Fast movies, Fast9 does strike me as one to avoid. It's as close as you're gonna get to a dead cert hit outside of a Disney property - eg, Marvel, Star Wars.

I think you're spot on, here; they'd certainly impact one another, and since Wonder Woman is the bigger franchise with the stronger chance of doing well, especially as the DC films seem finally to be finding their feet, GvK is the one that had to make way.

Thank you both for the thoughts. :-)

Wow, that is a gorgeous poster.
Hopefully releasing these two so close together won't bite Warner in the ass the same way releasing The Last Jedi and Solo did Disney.

I wouldn't say that's analogous, because those were two essentially unconnected movies in a shared universe, so they were kind of competing with each other, whereas GvK is more of a sequel to G:KotM.

More accurately a minute-and-half trailer the segues into a two-and-half minute scene that segues into a minute trailer. Still, lots of new footage and it continues to look amazing.
