Will the Picard show address the 800 lb gorilla that is data's death?

Excuse me, but I didn't make any sexist remarks. I said "the newbie writer" might have gotten it wrong. Gender neutral. Don't go putting words in my post.

Anyway, welcome to the Trek boards, new anonymous poster...

I was thinking more about her age.

If she says the writers couldn't use stuff from the movies, why are you dismissing her? Why do you think she's mistaken? Her writing partner Erika Lippoldt was on the podcast too. Erika didn't correct Bo Yeon.

It seems bizarre to me that they'd base a series premise on the aftermath of the destruction of Romulus, and then consult with the lawyers as to how much of that they'll be allowed to reference.

I think Patrick Stewart and Alex Kurtzman better call Saul.

All things being equal; it's probably a matter of CBS having to approve story elements that come from the movies rather than needing Paramounts permission - they would have all the licensing agreements or whatnot in place already.
Considering that Kurtzman is the Executive Producer of the CBS TV Star Trek franchise, I would lean towards 'non disclosure' being more likely than 'we don't know'.

Bo Yeon Kim specifically called the Discovery story restriction a "rights issue." The question is, how much does that apply to Kurtzman using the Romulan disaster in the Picard show? The situation between CBS and Viacom isn't the same as it was when Les Moonves was in charge. At the time of the interview, Kurtzman called the legality (that's the word Trekcore used) of using the story element "a conversation," which to me doesn't imply that an agreement is in place.

They kind of addressed this in TNG. In the episode where Data's Android mom shows up (Inheritance), Geordi says that she is programmed to age just like Data. I know it was contradicted in other episodes, but it's still stated on screen and part of canon.

Bo Yeon Kim is a staff writer, Kurtzman is the executive director.
The fact that the Picard series (apparently the working title is "Picard") takes place after the destruction of Romulus in ST09, and uses it as a background to current events in PicardLand, tells me that any vagueness on "rights" or "licenses" or "events" is more likely to be deflection than statements of fact.

Kim and Lippoldt are currently co-producers for Discovery and have been given the ungreenlit S31 show to run.

I think Kurtzman is simply confident the rights can be secured. We'll just have to agree to disagree on our interpretations.

According to IMDB, co-producer for only three episodes.

Really? Where did you hear that?

I think you're probably wrong, since Kurtzman has been in the business much longer. Experience counts.

    *chuckle*

That's because it hasn't been updated past episode 3. They're listed as co-producers in the opening credits each week this season. I'll guess you don't watch the show.

Kim and Kurtzman aren't saying conflicting things. This isn't an issue of "he knows more than she." It's strange you're characterizing it as such.

    Oh dear. Seriously? Come on.

I just don't like seeing Kim and Lippoldt minimized because some wish what Kim said wasn't true.

He either stays dead, B-4 is now him or they go the novel route. Its all irrelevant since he will never be on it anyway.
