Stage 9 gets cease and desist order from CBS

Except it does hurt companies because it puts contracts at risk. And there is a risk of others (not always the mod makers themselves) of making money from it. It is a slippery slope that companies would rather not risk.

Companies have the right to protect their property and this is one of doing so-by protecting their contracts and relationships with other companies.

Well forgive me for not caring to be honest and I will continue downloading, using and God forbid enjoying mods :nyah:

Who said anything about not using mods. I just understand why companies do it, I understand why mods are made, and I expect them to continue to get made. I just don't get mad at companies for protecting their property.

Well if mods are stealing call me the biggest thief on these boards and I will wear the badge with pride [/QUOTE

Mods (most of them anyway) aren't. But that's not what the thread is about. Generating significant content using someone elses copyrighted IP is theft, and Trek fans have not only abused fair use but gone way beyond that with fan games and films lately. They need reminding who owns what and why.

There was something similar to Stage 9, which was called Enterprise3DProject.

There was a bit of buzz, at least in the German media, about it a few years ago. Meanwhile their website http://ww38.enterprise3dproject.com/ is also dead.

Man, how great it would be to have a whole Enterprise-D or Voyager in first-person-persective. *dream*

Wait, you mean these were two different projects?

Very impressed by this! I hope MacFarlane/Fox/Disney have a bit more foresight than CBS did and don't just try and C&D this out of hand.
They contacted Fuzzy Door (the production company), so they know the project exists, Seth also retweeted the video saying it was a cool.
