Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

I'm not really into the Enterprise-F, but I didn't really like the J either. Glad they're both available for their fans though, it's amazing the range of ships Eaglemoss are making.

Indeed!
The major joy of this collection is that we get a model of almost every friggin' ship ever on screen! Which I never thougt would be possible. So I can hold some really, really obscure ships no one else cared about (Cpt. Proton's ship? The Romulan Drone?) in my hand. And others their ships they've always craved and most of us never cared about!

IIRC, the Eaglemoss folks went on record a couple of years ago, saying it wouldn't be too difficult to get the FJ line pulled back into canon and licensed. Which, IMO, would be supremely awesome. Disco has recently been flirting with including that specific branch of fandom material, starting with the use of FJ's original "two-faced" UFP logo, which actually got them in trouble with FJ's daughter and estate. Now we have a pair of tugs towing Enterprise that very closely resemble FJ Ptolemy tugs. So yeah, a lot of people could see it happening if the lawyers got together and attempted it.

A Huron would be cool, too, considering that TAS seems to have moved more firmly into canon in recent decades since Roddenberry's passing, but would be more technically difficult, since it's not easy to built a 3D model out of 2D drawings that never took the overall shape of a ship and how it goes together into account. I ran into this problem when I attempted orthos of the Orion Pirate vessel from the same episode. Very hard to reconcile all angles into one cohesive design. I also attempted schematics on the Red Worm and Renderer from the associated comic of the Peter Pan Records Trek story "A Mirror for Futility" with similar difficulties.

The Surya, Coventry and other designs of similar SSA and MDC pedigree, while equally awesome, would be much harder to get licenses for. Viacom/Paramount/CBS has always been historically resistant to legitimizing fan-made products.

a while back i skipped issue 10 the qoj class klingon ship in the discovery collection. since that model is just now starting to ship, i wasn't expecting anything from eaglemoss for at least another month, but got this shipping notification yesterday:

SSD09 was the clarke, SSD10 is presumably the qoj class... is this the shran already? or are we getting some mystery enterprise we weren't aware of? also pikey?

That is weird, considering the current Pike DiscoPrise is a part of the XL line (or was it the standard special edition line? Can't remember). I do recall hearing rumors there was going to be a slightly smaller DiscoPrise for the main Discovery line, but was a long way off, and only considered RumInt, and not official. That may have changed in recent weeks, however. They have the model, they have the paint schematics and infrastructure already laid out. I would think it would be a trivial matter to scale down, print the mold master and get it out the door. Additionally, it would make good business sense to get it out right ricky-tick while the conversations about DiscoPrise are active and the market's hot for it right now.

FWIW, it should be noted, however, that I got the same email with the Tardigrade line-item mentioned, but it also said the Klingon ship "Q" (I'm assuming they were referring to the "qoj" class), and not Enterprise. So who knows? Wouldn't be the first time that subscribers got different things. They recently skipped my Lantree and Xindi Primate ship for some odd reason, yet they're both available in the store. I've learned to live with these things once they became commonplace with Eaglemoss.

Got #143 the Merchantman today, great model. Good chunky size and excellent detail. Star Trek III is the most underrtated Trek movie for me, just for the original designs of this, the Excelsior, Bird of Prey, Grissom and Spacedock, the movie is a work of art.
Actually I might do a little display of all 5 of those plus the Enterprise now :)

Sadly gonna be my last pick up until April now, not really interested in the next 4 models (Gomtuu, Nightingale, Fesarius, Baran's Raider- aka Turd nugget, reissue, tennis ball, flat crab thing)

Everything I’ve seen shows the Shran as issue 11. Were you charged the normal price ? That might be one indication if they sent you the XL Enterprise.

charged normal price. i'm operating under the assumption it's the shran and just labeled incorrectly in the email. but that's the first time i've seen that happen. and since the XL enterprise is under the star trek starships collection banner, not the discovery collection, it's clearly not that.

Pics or it didn't happen! :D

In the US, two people have received the Enterprise-F model in lieu of their USS Bonaventure order.

The grey version.

For reference, pics are in the Hero Collector Starships fan group on Facebook.

The Merchantman-model looks so incredibly good, I'm centemplating getting it, even though my goal is to only buy the absolute minimal number of ships I really want to have, and while I always liked the design, I never really loved it - but this model is simply amazingly well done.:cardie:

This just happened to me today. The email invoice stated the Bonnie yet I just opened my package and it's the grey E-F which isn't even available to pre-order on the US Eaglemoss store.

That Merchantman looks like it’s one of the best of the entire line - in that scale, in the very least. The attention to detail and the gorgeous paint job really is one of Ben’s team’s crowning achievements.

Some more images have been released of the V'Ger model.

The paintjob looks good (it's an interesting choice how they decided to do a raised "cellular" texture for the rear-projected lightning insets in the central fins) especially considering they're boiling an eighty-foot-long model covered in intricate detailing down to less than a hundredth of that size, though it looks like the front maw is just painted black rather than having the rotating "teeth" in place that opened and closed it. I'm disappointed by the engine section, though. The "tailfeathers" extending back should be flared out, and probably a bit longer. They should also be aligned with the fins in the center, not with the valleys, but that might just be an assembly error with the prototype. Or maybe not, I can't quite tell if there's a seam between it and the "globe." If they're the same piece, yeah, that's not getting fixed.

Me too. I figured I had ordered the 1701-F a while back and just forgot about it. Then I realized, as you said, it isn't even for sale yet. It was a pleasant surprise. I stopped playing STO long before the E-F showed up, so this is my first 3D look at the design. It's alright. Kinda like the lovechild of the Galaxy and Sovereign. It could probably use another round of baking to smooth out a few ungainly issues (the stern of the secondary hull is discontinuous with the rest of the semi-organic design) but better than most STO ships.

Out of the 3 officially-sanctioned fan-designed ships, I'd put the 1701-F ahead of the Titan and behind the Aventine.

Wow, the Enterprise-F is a bad looking ship. I feel like 1) it's bad on its own merits, but 2) it doesn't do what all the other Enterprise designs do, and create a whole new aesthetic for starship design. The refit couldn't be a sister ship to the original, the D couldn't be one for the C. But the F looks like a sister ship to the E, instead of something from a generation later. It's weirdly unambitious.
