The Best Space Battles

Voyager's Distant Origins, when the Voth city ship showed up. How the brilliant tactics devised by Janeway on the spot saved the day.

I love sacrifice of angels and what you leave behind

Honorable mention: azati prime, balance of terror, battle of chintoka, nemesis, and the first battle of DS9

The one in Emissary were DS9 battles against a couple of Cardassian ships? ;)
No that wasn’t really a big battle. I mean if you were to go on to memory alpha and search the first battle of DS9. The one where the Klingons attacked the station.

Rewatched 2009 today. This is still an amazing scene and a great battle.

I really wanted to see the enterprise slug it out with another capital ship in the JJ films. It's a shame we were denied that.

The wrath of Khan.

It might have only been two ships but the emphasis on tactics and manovoring made it brilliant.

Undiscovered country. The end battle was brilliant with the constitution class getting hammered.

DS9 Way of the warrior. Seeing DS9 dish out so much destruction was awesome.

DS9 sacrifice of angles......600 ships against 1200 and the Klingons coming to the rescue.....awesome.

DS9 battle of chintoka.....Long multi episode battle conducted in space and land?.....Awesome.

It might seem to be ab unlikely candidate, but I always liked the battle between the USS Phoenix and various Cardassian ships from TNG The Wounded best.
Yes, those we see only as blue and red dots moving and vanishing on the Enterprises viewscreen.
Maybe the most realistic depiction of a space battle ever in any Star Trek show.
No amount of light show or ‚dogfighting‘ ship models ever can beat your imagination. Wonderfully efficient.
For more drama, you could have added some shots ‚targeting camera style‘ and from the inside of a hidden ship. Think of the way you are shown newsreel images of actual fighting.
IMO would be cheaper and more convincing than the ususal approach of WW I and WW II air and sea battles dressed up as space battles.

TWOK "Sneak Attack"

TWOK "Mutara Nebula Battle"

NEM "Basin Rift Battle"

DSC "Battle at the Binary Stars"

TOS "Balance of Terror"

DS9 "The Way of the Warrior"

TOS "Elaan of Troyius"

DS9 "Paradise Lost Lakota vs Defiant"

DSC "Si Vis Pacem"

Addendum: Overrated Battles-

FC "Borg Battle"
INS "Enterprise vs So'na"
TUC "Annoying Shakespeare Quotes Battle"
DS9 basically any massive fleet engagement during the Dominion War

Best? Not sure I'm qualified to answer that.

Favorite? The battle in "The Ultimate Computer". The four Connies on the Enterprise viewscreen really fired my imagination.

Yeah. I believe first ever episode with more than two starfleet ships

The first one I thought of was First Contact one, but I think the best one was in Nemesis.
Sometimes when the battles are big in the number of ships I find that ships get destroyed too easily. One or two torpedoes and they blow. In Nemesis it really felt like yes, they have shields evasive maneuvers and they can take some damage before getting blown to pieces.

Sacrifice of Angels was definitely the best, especially how it kept ramping up. There are so many memorable scenes from the battle, the entire fleet moving out once they see the gap in the enemy lines, the Galaxy Class ships piling onto that Cardie ship, the Miranda's getting blown to pieces etc

While it being called a "battle" might be overstated a bit, the Tension during the end of "The Enterprise Incident " makes it one of my fav hostile encounters in Trek.

Of course The Wrath of Khan is near the top as is "Balance of Terror" and the Battle of Terok Nor in the Mirror Universe.

I hate it when they use starship fleets in battle like dogfights in WWI. Starship fleet battles should be coordinated line (disk) of battle where you focus the fleet's firepower on one or two target ships at a time, and don't let the enemy break the line. Simple fleet tactics are still the best. This was the battle tactic used by the Federation's four then later three starship formations in The Ultimate Computer. Even though not seen in the original airing of Errand of Mercy, I get the sense that this was the battle formation of the Federation fleet as it approached the Klingon fleet near the Organian system.

Ship-to-ship battles showcase speed and getting in the first shot. Get in, hit hard, get out, recharge weapons and shields, go back in, repeat. In TOS, this was the tactics in Balance of Terror, The Doomsday Machine, Journey to Babel and Elaan of Troyius. Going back to The Ultimate Computer, M5 was able to turn the fleet battle into an one-on-one ship engagement. Due to M5's fast reaction speed to calculate both maneuvering and targeting solutions, M5 maneuvered near only one target, shot first, and got out before any of the human operated systems could react. I'm kind of disappointed that there was never a real fleet-to-fleet engagement in TOS. Damn those interfering Organians. :klingon:

Just one thing Dogfights aren’t limited to WWII even modern fighter planes dogfight. And while simple tactics are good you can’t use them all the time. But other than that I agree
