Spoilers Star Trek: Discovery 2x03 - "Point of Light"

If Spock has been having dreams of angels since he was a kid, I could maybe let it slide that he never mentioned it to the Enterprise crew (he didn't want them to think he was crazy), but it's practically unfathomable that no one brings it up in Sybok's quest to recruit the Enterprise to find God in Star Trek 5.

Except that nobody in that movie knows about it, except Spock, who tends to hold his cards close to his chest. Nobody in Star Trek V knows about Sybok until Spock fesses up, so maybe Spock never mentioned his childhood visions to Kirk or McCoy.

Granted, it's hard to say until we see how the Red Angel storyline resolves, but it's possible that Spock's childhood memories are his own private affair, like his fiancee, pon farr, his katra, etc.

The show doesn’t say that, in fact the opposite happens at the end.

He did seem entirely rational like that about faith and seeing things the entire movie *nods*

Yeah, Section 31 is now "the" designated Starfleet Intelligence Service. Not the Illuminate-like secret organization they were originally envisioned as.

I really don't like that either. But that's a trend that started with season 4 ENT, and was completely finalized in "Into Darkness".

It's shitty. But at this point we have to accept that.



This OTOH was my major porblem with this episode, yeah.

This show is 120 years prior to the 'revelation' of Section 31 during DS9's run. <--- A LOT can (and did) happen to/in the Federation in all that time.

Section 31 is short for a specific section in the Starfleet Charter, so it more or less IS part of Starfleet, even if its separate from it.

Heck, Michael grew up with Spock and this is the first she's heard about his childhood visions. Apparently it was something that was not spoken of in the Sarek household.

This felt like a set-up episode. Tilly was the best part, I felt for her thinking she was losing it.

Pike's the only captain that still uses a viewscreen?

The Klingon stuff was... not as good as season one. And the D7 is new, after they called a ship D7 in season one. And Enterprise had a D7 100 years earlier.

The Section 31 ship was cool (variable geometry warp nacelles and a cloaking device... [insert umpteenth mockery of continuity here]) but again, it's set-up for the future.

This one was my least favourite of the season, though it did have its moments.

• I don't care for the Section 31/Georgiou angle, and I suppose it's too much to hope that this it for them till their questionable spin-off. But I did like the sequence where Georgiou swooped in at the last second to save L'Rell and Ash.
• I also liked seeing more traditional-looking Klingons and that holo of a "real" D7 (that apparently Ash is going to build? Or was, until he booked it outta there.
• I kinda miss L'Rell's previous look. If they had just added hair to that, it would be great. Even her scar has diminished, and overall her features are a little too soft.
• It was nice seeing Mia back as Amanda in a bigger role this episode, though I felt her scenes with Michael dragged like molasses. Sometimes the darkness (i.e., low lighting) of some scenes aboard Disco really swallow up much of what I should be concentrating on. I wasn't exactly clear what happened when Amanda turned somewhat frosty towards Michael at the end of their last scene -- I'll definitely pay closer attention to what happened there when I rewatch.
• It was interesting to see the change in the May character. While she was bubbly and friendly last week, she was downright antagonistic & annoying this time, and seeing how that affected Tilly was interesting to watch. Her breakdown on the bridge was very well played. I was a little disappointed that they just decided to extract the presence from her outright; was no one at all curious to know what she wanted or why she was running out of time or why she needed to see Stamets so desperately? She has been contained, so I guess a more controlled interview may happen next week.
• And did I hear correctly, or did Pike address Owosekun as "Owo" in that bridge scene? When Tilly used that nickname in the previous episode, I figured it was just a Tilly thing.

Has "K'tinga" ever been said on-screen? Because "D7" was first used in Voyager, referring to the exact same CG model reused for Enterprise.
