Spoilers Star Trek: Discovery 2x03 - "Point of Light"

I should start a paranoid delusion that Fox is paying people to hate the show to make the Orville look good.

Oh wait, I’m sane.

 

At least they are watching a show they like. How much are you getting paid by rival studios?

 

Think about this... people waited nearly a year for season 2. A year... for this

 

You don’t have to watch it.

 

People can like DIS if they want but this thread is full of people giving the episode a high score then moaning how it wasn’t a very good episode. That is silly. Either it was good or it wasn’t. Just because DIS is the only “Star Trek” on tv, it doesn’t mean you have to force yourself to like it, bigging up mediocrity...

 

There are these things called opinions, everyone has one and they are unique.

There isn’t a conspiracy because you lack the ability to imagine anyone thinking differently than you.

 

Giving something a high score then saying it isn’t very good is having two opinions at the same time. Unless these reviews were written by the horde, then they should be ignored...

 

Thought it was pretty good.

Loved the Klingon political intrigue. I realize it's not everyone's cup of tea, of course. Felt like the melee fight actually had high stakes compared to TNG/DS9 depictions where it usually comes across more fake and lumbering. They maybe went a bit far with the blood and gore for my liking, though. Did love Ash screaming back at the guy when he killed him.

I enjoyed Georgiou's entrance. The Section 31 stuff intrigues me. I wish they'd left in the recruitment scene from last season, but still, I like the idea of MU Georgiou and Tyler teaming up for some 'freak' shenanigans.

Poor Tilly. What a fantastic performance, I really felt her fear that she was being worn down into insanity by May. Liked that Burnham was able to be her friend and talk her through it. But god, that scene in the Captain's chair was painful.

Wish there had been more Stamets. Need more Stamets.

The family stuff with Amanda was emotional and heart-felt. I liked how Pike and co. knew immediately that something was suspicious regarding the situation with Spock once they contacted the Starbase. I really don't think Spock would have killed three men. Not when he can just Vulcan pinch them. There has to be more to it.

I just hope they don't draw it out too long. People will get impatient. Also the reason Michael and Spock are estranged needs to be revealed sooner than later, otherwise they risk building it up so much that it ultimately flops.

I thought it was an excellent transitional episode tying up loose ends but also introducing new story threads. I do agree, though, that there was a slightly disjointed quality to the 3 plot threads and if they could have weaved them together better thematically, I would have scored it higher.

Pity Kol's dad died, he was fun to watch with all of his villainous bluster.

 

So you don’t agree, so it can’t be true? So you understand that other humans beings are independent and think on their own. Because you don’t seem to be getting that.

 

I kept getting distracted by watching them do canon-repair work during the episode. I gave the episode a 6 when my gut was telling me to give it a lower score at the time but another part of me was saying not to be so harsh. But after letting it sink in more I probably should have given it a lower score. There's only 14 episodes then we gotta wait another year or more. They invested a lot of valuable precious minutes correcting their own inconsistencies.

 

The subtitles aren’t as fancy on the Netflix version.

 

I liked that when L’Rell switched to English, the subtitles switched to Klingon. That was fun.

 

I LUV Star Trek, I have done so for over 50 years.
I also have Absolutely No Control, over how it gets made or what stories They choose to tell.

Why the Hell would I elect to chit all over something that I LUV, just because it may not match up to any preconceived notions I may hold in my minds-eye?

I learned a long time ago that if you really LUV something, then you learn to take the good with the mediocre and make the best of it.

Otherwise, you almost always end up with nothing worthwhile to show for it, while quite often coming across as a miserable presence with a morose attitude.

And that's something I definitely don't ever wish to be.

One does most often, have to grasp at straws when flinging conspiracy theories about.
Unfortunately, many times those straws are well worn and one has to 'suck harder' to achieve any meaningful satisfaction.

 

It's a junky space soap opera gussied up with lots of swooping camera and an 8 million plus budget. But I like the electric guitar and when the lady exploded the goblins.

hmm I haven't considered that, kind of scary if that's true. But in a capitalistic world companies have done that. What a deceptive world.

 

My feeling was that it was Kirk who had the obsessions and it was Spock, along with McCoy, who helped the captain climb down from his obsessions. I never visioned Spock as the obsessive type.

 

I'm not too sure about that - he got pretty obsessive during the who kholinar/v'ger time period, even to the point of nerve pinching crewmen so he could investigate it further. Also, he got it into his head that stealing the Enterprise was the only option open in order to help an injured Pike.
I think his logic, coupled with emotions from his human half leads him down some unusual paths.
