I'd think that your quarters would be a better place for that sort of thing than the officers' mess, but to each their own.
Repurposing Airplane into the soundtrack for TMP??? Have the Klingon bridge crew speak the "What's our vector, Victor?" skit. Have the Kohlinar ceremony led by woman who speaks Jive. Have Scotty's exterior tour of the ship punctuated by the Loading Zone couple. Have the Epsilon station crew demand, "Get me Rex Kramer!" And Kirk arrives. Have Rand report the auto pilot deflating as Sonak beams aboard. Have Spock's arrival accompanied by the George Zip March Replace V'ger's radio code with Jive.
Have Kirk be reluctant to take command of the Enterprise because of what happened to George Zip over Macho Grande.
As tempting as it is to pervert TMP, which is not very much at all, I'm gonna go with "just... no," too.
It's crazy though, there is now technology that can also duplicate an actor's voice if it has a sufficient sample. Lacking emotion I would expect, but good enough to deliver some technobabble perhaps. I could go through Into Darkness and replace all references to Khan with Garth! I'd edit out Spock's scream entirely. It would be more powerful if he is shown repressing all that emotion. Then there is the prospect of editing some scenes for Yeoman Rand into a few episodes in seasons two and three. You could add dialogue that doesn't have anything to do with coffee or the galley. I have 20 years until retirement but I'm beginning to see how I could spend it!
Wonderful. It's everything I hoped it would be and more. "Our only hope of beating the Klingons lies in not only finding someone who can fly this ship, but who didn't have fish for dinner!"
I've done a first draft of the transporter scene with a whole extra 1 second of dialogue. As the extra speech is so slight I might try to see if I can do a manual face swap on Rand for lip synchronisation, just to see how weird it looks (her head is tilted at an angle in the source footage so possibly very weird). Kirk is trickier as his whole head is at a weird angle in the scene and he gets a lot more dialogue. Interesting experiment as proof of concept though.
Dunne if anyones aware but theres some deepfakes of 'Continues' with Shatner and Nimoys faces .. its..kind of weird
Maybe you can make your own stories like John Byrne does using photographs, you can use footage and edit all together with new dialogue.
I'm sure it will be possible albeit not in a major way. The processing power and time required would be prohibitive. It would be fun to try though.
Not as a profitable endeavor but like fan films, I meant. In 20 years the technology will likely have advanced, also.
I might be a bit long in the tooth by then but I will certainly be willing to give it a go ;-p As mentioned above, some scenes from Star Trek Continues have been done, which show the limitations of the basic Deepfake face swaps (the head shape of the actors can't be changed) but if Deep Video Portrait could do that more effectively then who knows if they could bring likenesses and voices of the original actors just for kicks? I think my first port of call would be to give Yeoman Rand some little cameos in some of the season two and three episodes.
I like the suggestion that Leonard Nimoy made. It is near the end of the movie and McCoy decides he is going to stay, so Spock basically says that since McCoy is staying, the ship is going to need some logic so he is going to stay as well. Nimoy said it better and it would have gotten a good laugh. Something TMP needed. More humor. If there is audio of Nimoy saying that, then I would love to see them create that scene for the movie.
