I suspect that Picard in this new series won't be a USS Enterprise captain anymore. in Trek 2009, he was a diplomat, and not captain. So maybe Picard has been retired and become a full time diplomat. I think that the new story will not about a captain and his crew inside the USS Enterprise E, but more about Picard who is now civilian still has a psychological problem after he failed to save Romulus. If I'm right, then the new Star Trek will more about psychological story than an adventure.

The non-canon comics of which Kurtzman was one of the creators. Seems to me that makes it quite possible that Picard will be an ambassador. The series acknowledges Hobus, so why not the rest of the story he wrote?
It acknowledges Hobus because they showed it in the movie. Any show would have done that.
But yes I also did say earlier in this thread that I wouldn’t be surprised if Kurtzman borrowed some elements from the comics.
Well, no, there was never any guarantee that Hobus would be acknowledged. See the various threads since the show was announced. The fact that Kurtzman did acknowledge it as canon in the series opens the door for him to incorporate earlier elements of his story -- Ambassador Picard, General Worf, Geordi designing the Jellyfish, Captain Data (who should have been B4, but maybe they just renamed him), etc...
CBS has been acknowledging it since 2009.
I think he means the name Hobus, as that never appeared in canon, only in the Countdown comics. However, it's become so common in usage I'm sure it wouldn't be altered. Probably even the novels, while they do their own thing, would have used the Hobus name at this point.
So next Star Trek show to be announced... "Star Trek Borg: Saving The Galaxy From The Federation Virus"

But if it was acknowledged, what was the problem with the novelverse? i.e. from what I understand, no one was allowed to write stories that take place after 2387 because of the events of ST'09. This suggests that its canon nature was tenuous.
From what I understand is that they just didn't have it as part of their licence agreement, had nothing to do with the Canon.
Star Trek Online was forced to include the supernova and the destruction of Romulus by CBS because it happened in ST'09. They're a solely CBS Licensed game, Paramount has no connection.
It was because Pocket didn't have the rights to publish stuff based on the movies. And although Prime universe, the supernova still happened in a Bad Robot/Paramount movie they couldn't touch.
i always wondered what the galaxy was like post-romulus going "Ka-blooey". cause you know the Klingons were probably itching to expand their territory. probably causing another war between the Federation and the Klingons.
I wonder if they'll tie it into the possible future seen in All Good Things, where the Klingons had conquered the Romulans. The supernova destroying Romulus might have caused enough chaos to allow that to happen.
I know some think it was entirely a Q fabrication, but other possible futures in other series used the exact same uniforms.
So in-universe speaking, Q either peered into the future and took some things to make his fabrication, or it really was a potential future that was altered because Picard and Admiral Janeway causing butterflies.

Let me guess what the pilot episode wouldve looked like: An old, war-weary and bitter Prime Picard played by SirPatStew gets sucked in the blackhole created by Nero in 2399, However, instead of landing in the 22nd century Kelvin-verse he arrives in the 2330s Kelvin-Verse and meet with the young Picard of this timeline either before or right after he assumes command of the 'Stargazer.'
He gives his young Kelvin counterpart some advises about how he should handle himself as a new Captain, tells him to 'seize the day,' then disappears (or dies).
The rest of the miniseries then centered on the young Kelvin Picard played by James McAvoy or another newbie actor.
So the essence the series is the adventures of Young Kelvin (or another timeline) Picard. SirPat is only there to introduce him to us, then he would be on his own.
I don't know what to think. I feel disappointed we're not getting the Picard Prime we all know, but given who's running the show now, I'm not surprised with this turn of events

Reading the link, Frakes just seemed to confirm that Picard is retired from Starfleet. Frakes made no comment about a "timeline" (I dunno where the quote above came from).
The producers have already said the show takes place 20 years post Nemesis. And we've seen a rough whiteboard showing the spheres of influence of the different powers in 2399. Thus it seems clear that this takes place in the PU or something very, very close.
