No series 12 till 2020?

Every premises in the UK is on the licence data base, so any that are not shown to be in possession of a tv licence will be sent warning letter ad nausum and have unannounced visiters at their doors at any time of the day wanting access to enter your premises so you can prove you are not committing a criminal offence........the tv detector vans were complete lies spread by the BBC back in the day.
Wow, all of that sounds obnoxious! Can you refuse to let them in? Or, is that a crime?

You can deny them entry, but they will do everything they can to get in or to get as much info from you as possible in the hope that you might give them enough to start court proceedings.........they get a bonus for every licence or person they get into court......go to yt and type tv licence capita enforcement......see first hand the enforcement arm of good old auntie bbc. Lol

If you're asking me, yeah, 2-3 pounds, that's about what the season pass is on iTunes for Doctor Who. Which is probably less than we pay now. Not only are we paying for Netflix, but, we are paying to get our regular channels, that's about 480 dollars a year--and that's lower than we have paid in years. There are probably about 10 shows we watch with any regularity---and that's generous. So, 48 bucks a show... Of course, they vary in the number of episodes.

Your turn. What would you pay?

OR, if you want, how much do you think the licensing fee should be?

Here we'd call that harassment! Sounds terrible.

Again i will pay what you pay, 121 quid for all the BBC content you enjoy plus all the Netflix content on top of that, now that's value for money, and i would also be 33 quid better off in my pocket, a win win don't you think. ;)

Yeap, that is how they operate, every non licenced premises in the UK is seen as committing a criminal offence by watching live tv without a licence, basically guilty until you prove your innocent, weird law that should have been decriminalized long ago but they are afraid that once it is no longer a offence that everyone will bail from the licence fee and the BBC, which makes you wonder if its so beloved why the fear. Lol

The way to go in that case, oc, would be to encrypt the broadcast and you get a decryption key by registering and paying.

But if less people pay, the individual amount goes up.
It’s sort of a social contract that everyone accepts this , so general access to public broadcast is available and independent.

If it were privatized, the companies would find ways to monetize it more while decreasing cost aka quality.
If it were financed by the government (basically through more taxes), the content is subject to ideology of the party in power.

So, to make it as cheap as possible everyone has to pay in, like an insurance system.
Now an opt-out option is in principle possible, but then you’d have to proof that you have no access to the broadcast which is very unlikely these days.
Who doesn’t own a TV, radio or internet access device?

^^^^If you were to ask me what would personally think was the best option if they were ever to decriminalize the licence fee, i would say offer opt out and encryption, seems the prefect solution to catch two birds with one stone, you haven't paid then you can't watch the services, so you eliminate the likes of having to waste funding on Capita and you also eliminate that already busy court system......but again the only flaw in that is the fear of just how many will be happy to opt out.....maybe its time to ask the British public.

So, you want the BBC to produce MORE without having to pay more. Gotcha.

Honest question, but is it even possible to opt out of the license fee? I thought it wasn't. I even thought I've heard of vans going around detecting people who haven't paid. Or, maybe that's people who opt out but then watch the BBC anyway? I'm not really sure. Is it mandatory?
Honestly, I'm not British so I have no idea how it works. But given Haggis was complaining about the lack of Doctor Who not being worth what he's paying, the implication was that it was optional. If it is indeed a mandatory thing, then why complain about the lack of Doctor Who? Because I would imagine the Wilderness Years of 16 years without any Doctor Who aside from a ninety minute TV movie in 96 and paying for it would be a lot harsher.

But I'm not British so please excuse me for talking out of my ass.

I can't get over the idea that someone feels there's literally nothing else worth watching on the BBC but Doctor Who and Question Time. It's such a statement I can't honestly believe it.

It sounds like it is optional but you're harassed if you don't pay it.

You dont need to believe it, and no one has asked you to, just move on and accept people have different views and opinions from you, such is lifes rich tapestry. ;)

I accept people have different views and opinions, that's why I'm on a discussion board. I'm curious about those opinions and different views, that's, again, why I'm on a discussion board, because I want to understand.

Life's rich tapestry... like all the content on the BBC.

Let me assue you the BBC won't in any way be upset or wounded by me being critical of them, so you don't need to worry about them, they will get over ot and move on. ;)
