Good God, does everything this guy touches turn to shit? Seriously, aside from the first Prelude effort, nothing AP has done before or since has been successful. He really needs to consider a career change, perhaps in the fast food industry or as a WalMart greeter, maybe. Someplace he can do little damage in other people's lives that would inevitably result in a 5-6-figure punitive litigation.
I would put the success of Prelude in the capable hands of Christian Gossett, and the wonderful professional actors and actresses who sold the concept to us.

I should’ve known better but I watched one Alec’s video updates from last week. Unsurprisingly it was on the recurring topic of patches, since several of the updates seem to revolve around yet more patch deliveries to Ares Studios. Couple of notes:

Didn’t we see that he’s still surrounded by loads of the things during the move? Although I guess I should applaud this effort to finally deliver on overdue fundraising perks. He still has to send them out and history has shown him to be better at buying patches than delivering them.

And of course he couldn’t go a 5 minute video without a shot at CBS as the cause of all the issues in the project. Sending out all fans at a certain level a patch due to sticking with them during CBS’ antics. He couldn’t let it lie. It had to be CBS fault.

Of course cynically I suspect this is more to do with the difficulty in figuring out who was supposed to get the patch with various aborted backer kit replacements lying in his wake. And talking of which, this is surely just all an attempt to drum up a token amount of progress ahead of building a mailing list to beg money from via Ares Digital v3?

The problem with patches is that Alec prioritized the distribution of patches purchased in the "Donor Store" over the distribution of patches to those who had donated through one of the campaigns. Thus he ended up with a stockpile of patches he can't legally sell or use in a fundraiser, whilst simultaneously he has a long list of donors who never got their merchandise because it was sold to some other unsuspecting Star Trek fan. In addition, his backerkit list is likely hopelessly out of date, so he senses an opportunity to get up to date data on folks he can then privately approach for funds AND a way to delay accruing shipping/labor costs to actually send the dang things.

All this for a little scrap of embroidered fabric.

I also watched Alec's video on the patches. There was no point to it, and it was a lousy reason for doing a video. I didn't like the dig at CBS because the situation is very much Alec's fault. I got patches from another fundraiser but Axanar just can't seem to get it right.

Alec said Discovery isn't prime Trek, well I'm not going to get into that debate but at least CBS has put out 15 episodes in 2 years, and Alec hasn't put out anything. It's time for him to put up or shut up. I'm still reading the Bill Hunt version of the script, I do think it's slightly better than Alec's, but I have a meh feeling about it.

Bill Hunt's script is still terrible, and carries over far too much of LFIM's bullshit previous versions. It's easy to heap the blame on LFIM for not allowing changes, but scriptwriting is still amateur hour.
Bill's explanation for the flaws that remain outside of the Lord Garth scenes...

1) No page one rewrite
2) Done in extreme haste as they were told that shooting was to begin soon
3) Lowered expectations 'make it a fun Star Trek B-movie'

If you’re not reading the Sporkings breakdown of the script it’s worth a look. If only for the way they call out Garth’s consistent characterisation as an awful leader and generally unpleasant human being.

Like writer, like character, eh?

RMB has dropped a ton of Axanar VFX footage with commentary. I'm pretty sure Alec planned to use some of that footage in Axanar Lite, so I am sure he's thrilled. Click!
I think it looks good.

One thing to note, Tobias has not been barred from CBS licensed productions because his work on Axanar, as him and his team have modelled a handful for ships for Star Trek Online over the last year.

The ships should be thousands, if not tens of thousands, of kilometers apart. I don't think they were more than ten kilometers away at any point during the combat.

I'm not seeing the problem here, that's what Star Trek combat has been like since the 80s.

That doesn't make it any less stupid. Even at sub-light speeds, ships should be moving at several thousand kilometers per hour. There are plenty of on-screen examples indicating weapon ranges are measured in the tens of thousand-kilometers, and targeting sensors reach out even farther.

This is how Star Trek has always shown space combat, it’s probably never going to change. It’s more visually pleasing to the audience.

They may say those numbers, but they’ve never shown them except on 2D screens, or just mentioned in dialogue.

Any combat scene in space between ships in Star Trek has almost always been close quarters except maybe a couple in TOS.

I made it a little further into the script, and stopped. Everything Maurice said up thread is right. RMB did claim it was a page one rewrite, but the story is exactly the same as what's in LFIM's version. I made it a little ways past the Vulcan scene, and it is not as LFIM claimed "the greatest Star Trek script ever written." I definitely don't want to see Axanar now because t became all about LFIM, and not telling a good story.

This Axanar thing is too weird. At least for me, with the username I have. Especially since I'm such a huge Discovery fan and it seems like the "We want Axanar!" crowd (who I have nothing to do with) aren't.
If it makes you feel any better, I have no use for either Axanar or Discovery.
