Percussion instruments Those jangly things that the Vulcans shook at the Spock / Kirk challenge in "Amok Time"
A trombone. And he played it several times. More or less successful. Jonathan Frakes plays the trombone and Riker inherited this ability . There were severel Chinese gongs used: to accompany Kira's childbirth and Lwaxana's entourage having a meal. Every time someone stuck a bit of food into his mouth, the gong was struck. I guess those are not instruments, merely sounds of annoyance for most of the involved, at least Shakaar, O'Brien and Picard. Data and Kira on the other hand were cool as cucumber.
This might be stretching it a bit, but.....let's get stretchy. The episode where the Voyager Doc confuses a groupie with a real love interest. She creates a hologram that played...or sang... the whole orchestral music as it was singing a complete choral mode. heh. I like that episode. The Doc was written to be a diva. Anyway, my answer issssss. a holo-orchestra?
That's why I said "piano like" Yes, Trelane's was a harpsichord, but I couldn't remember the name of it last night Harpsichords pre dated pianos if I'm not mistaken
Also, at Q's post-apocalyptic court, at least the "Encounter at Farpoint" version of it. Some chimes-on-a-stick plus a fun-looking "bamboo bagpipe" were played at the Klingon festival in TNG "Firstborn". Also, despite the "only one at a time" rule, I feel it safe to mention Geordi "Alan O'Dale" LaForge's lute here, as nobody could consider it to have been played in the episode. Timo Saloniemi
I stand corrected. But my main point was that the Platonians, Trelane, and Flint all had plot-specific reasons to be using Earth instruments and not some alien version.
According Memory Alpha there is a Voyager crew man (Ensign Bronowski) who plays the accordion. He has no sense of humor but was considered as date for Seven. Seven on the other hand played the piano.
