I'd say a significant central neck: we see the portside nacelle of each ship, and then a further, differently shaped protrusion behind that nacelle, one that clearly isn't the starboard nacelle because it lacks the red rear end and all. And the lower tractor beam seems to come from the block at the lower end of that central neck.

But we'll see. Hopefully in a separate shot, because the one above won't become more accurate in the actual episode, alas.

Looks like a neck strut with a tractor beam emitter built into the framework. I'd hope there would be a neck to these tugs if they are indeed supposed to be DSC-flavored updates to the classic TOS-era design.

If they are too close in appearance to the Ptolemy-styled tugs, CBS may once again accidentally run afoul of the FJ estate like they did last season with the derivative "two-face" UFP logo. They should just bury the damn hatchet, pay for the rights and get it overwith.

A picture of STO's model of the Vulcan Cruiser/Corvette or whatever it is.

Any idea how they are sizing it in the game?
    Cruiser or Runabout size?

Dunno, doesn't hit the game until the 23rd, this is just a preview.

But it's a full starship, not a Small craft, and it's free (if you do the Anniversary event)

another case of STO changing things up a bit (contrary to the discussion elsewhere about their accuracy). the engines here are pink, they're blue in the show.

    just sayin.

They're pink/red in the show. The Eaglemoss model is wrong.

They don't appear to be glowing in that shot, so that could be what they look like when they're off.

Both Eaglemoss and the STO devs were given the show used CGI models, so I don't know what to say how one could be wrong.

Maybe eaglemoss didn't look at the screen captures

perhaps! but this goes back to the weirdness with the clarke. the eaglemoss model and renders have the bussards glowing blue, the STO model has them glowing red, the ship as it appears on screen looks to have white or even yellow bussards...

It could very well be that on the CG asset they're blue and then color-corrected to red/pink in compositing. The rebooted Battlestar Galactica did that with the Vipers; the engine exhaust was yellow-white in the asset but color adjusted to blue on request of the client. They did it in comp for all four seasons of the show and never changed the asset, for whatever reason.

STO's designers have designed their own Terran ship inspired by the Charon, but way smaller

I think the Mirror Universe (and it ships) works much better if it's the same technology as the prime one, only...mirrored?
IMO this one is already going really far into "completely different universe"-territory.

i was actually thinking the opposite. the reuse was always clearly budgetary, but given the vastly different nature of the terran empire from starfleet, it never made a huge amount of sense to me that the technology would be mostly identical. i always assumed starfleet technology was built out multicultural technological development, since the terrans are xenophobes, their tech would have developed differently, even if it was from conquest and not free exchange.

I doesn't make much sense that in a completely different universe, with a vastly different history, the same people appear as well - in the same rank positions, on the same ships, only with a goatee.

Really, the "Mirror Universe" is not just a parallel universe. It's, well, a dark "mirror" of our own, thus following other rules as well. Like, they somehow are steered on a same path, the Federation through cooperation, the MU gaining the same technologies through domination (and a bit of luck/future technology from our universe).

Of course that's just a personal opinion. But in my mind, the concept itself is already that "soft"-SF, that they should run with it as a clear analogy. Introducing this type of "realism" in different technology only manages to discredit the entire concept - of a similar yet evil universe - itself. Star Trek is not hard-SF. It has beaming and Warp and time-travel after all. It should just be internally consistent. And a straight up Mirror is IMO more consistent than a mix-up of dark mirror/alternate universe. Realistic is neither of those.

I didn't mind Charon being the outlier, since it is both a palace and a plot point in itself, but yes, since the MU always seems to impossibly mimic Prime down to tiny details, whether it makes sense or not, the MU should have the same ships more or less.

Yeah, I can live with the "Charon" as an outlier as well, because "having dominant superweapon ships" was kind-of how they won the war shown on ENT (with the TOS-connie "Defiant" being their superweapon ship helping them to crush everyone else).
