There are two words that fix it easily.I've seen enough discussions on 'STD canon violations' to counter that, even just from a visual standpoint. It's easier just to view it as it's own thing.

I guess it's better than Enterprise NX-01 in the Star Trek: The Beginning script, where they missed the war because they were having shore leave at Risa.
It’s not mental gymnastics, it’s pretty damn easy.
The simple existence of early reviews, good or bad, is generally a good sign for a show or movie.
It takes far more "mental gymnastics" to argue against Discovery's stated place in the Prime Universe of Star Trek...
One would then have to apply that standard to EVERY Trek show since TOS.It really doesn't. The show doesn't look or feel anything like the universe as it was originally envisioned, then there's the idea that no one from the original is even involved.

There comes a point where you've changed so much, it is no longer really related to the original.
Doesn't mean Discovery can't tell good stories though.
Why would you heavily market on a media 'cord cutters' don't watch.?NO KIDDING!!! I totally agree!
The thing I find strangest is that they haven't been marketing it very much on broadcast CBS (although admittedly, I only watch football on CBS). I've seen one advertisement for it. Just one. It seems really dumb, because the trailers are so visually impressive that you'd figure they'd want that out there everywhere.
I also agree that a 2-hour launch simultaneous on the network and on CBSAA would be to their advantage. Seems very odd that they wouldn't do that.
No, they've had an incident where they were damaged; and are seeking out the Discovery (Pike's been ordered to take Command) because its Spore Drive allows them to get to the anomalies faster than any other ship in the Fleet. But they've come back now in 2257 because of the Red Angel stuff?
There's still no evidence that they'll use the drive.because its Spore Drive allows them to get to the anomalies faster than any other ship in the Fleet.
That's a lot easier than completely rejecting the "New" and doesn't give me cause to have too consider it subverting 50 years of Trek entertainment going forward.
There's still no evidence that they'll use the drive.
Well there is the scene in the video below which show Stamets & Tilly getting ready to engage the Spore Drive...There's still no evidence that they'll use the drive.
Who says they're going to visit all of them?No way for them to get at most of the red spots without it.
