Yes, that one is incredibly stupid. It makes you wonder where they recruit their writers.
How about subatomic particles that only destroy atoms that belong to living things!!
I mean when that "particle" comes upon an, say, atom of carbon, it somehow can tell if that atom belongs to a living body OR a piece of clothing, for example, if it's the latter it leaves that atom alone, if it's the former it destroys it!!!
Seriously? Where do they get these people? A particle with a degree in biology!!!
I think they believe a personal connection between the hero and villain is more appealing to the audience. Not sure when that started. I blame Austin Powers.

Holmes and Moriarty did the deed? First time I hear of that. The last thing I heard is that Holmes pushed him in a chasm and he fell to his death. Holmes took advantage of the situation to make people believe that he died too only to reappear two years later.
I thought you were referring to the TV series
But ... canon is anything that appears onscreen. So if a TV series isn't canon ....

Elementary? Whatever happened to their Moriaty? Is she still in jail? I've kind jumped in and out over the last few seasons, so there's a lot of stuff that I've missed.
The Villains that behave like idiots: Like In the last Jurassic World where Mills (the Villain of the story) sees two of his men being devoured by the IndoRaptor (a super duper man-eating Dinosaur) and we see him later quietly packing his bags...
I don't know about you but If I knew that such a beast was moving around, I'd jump in my car and put as much distance between myself and the monster as technically possible!
Turns out that Mills was lucky, he escaped the Indoraptor, but not the T-Rex who made a quick snack out of him...

Then there was The Seven Percent Solution, where we find out that Moriarty was Holmes' math tutor who also had an affair with his mother, leading to Holmes' father killing his mother.
While it hasn't been happening too often, I have been finding a few instances of accidental incest in media recently.
There was that movie The Judge, where Robert Downey Jr. slept with a hot bartender, then found out she was the daughter of his old high school sweetheart. He did the math and realized that it was totally possible that she was his own illegitimate daughter. In the end, she turned out not to be his daughter, so he acted like he just dodged a massive bullet, except she still turned out to be his niece, so EWWW!
Then there was the Lost Girl episode "Like Hell, Part 2," where Bo seduced Persephone only for Persephone to later reveal that she is both Bo's cousin and kinda her step-mother. That's what you get for being born into the Greek pantheon, I guess.
