Though it would have been cool to see Culber more 'ghost like'.
Apparently he's definitely coming back to life, if we go by that poster.
Also strange that everybody is pretty much looking up except Michael and Georgieu.
I wonder if this means that Tilly and Saru will be spending more time together?

His death did affect the characters, the plot, and the ongoing direction of the franchise. It mattered, because it was dealt with and had thematic and plot importance. Even Culber's partner didn't seem to care that much, and nobody else indicated any emotion at all. The plot was not affected by the death either. Did we even see a memorial?
YES, the now-gone (as in Fired) producers screwed-the-pig with that event royally.

the ending was rushed, really rushed and incidents that should have had gravitas like Culber's murder were just swept out. Which is a pity because Stamets standing up to TyVoq was superb acting from Rapp and Latif.
I think there's time to save this though and factor this all in with the red angel plot. Stamets, I suspect, wasn't AS affected as one would think he should be, because to be honest. Culber isn't really dead (queue Miracle Max explaining "mostly dead") which was shown. And either Stamets has an idea why or just hasn't had time to really work it out. (a smug "my husband is coming back and we're taking a vacation with all the backpay ship's bursor will owe him")
Well this is a completely over-the-top reaction to a simple, fair, and comprehensive expression of displeasure with how a character was treated from an obvious fan of the show, and not anything like some YouTube "fanatic" bent on seeing something negative around every corner. Lumping in any reasonable criticism with the likes of Midnight's Edge is not a good look. Yes, you're quite right, My Apologies.
I let the seemingly pervasive and pessimistic drivel being espoused in certain locales usurp my usual laidback sensibilities.
Again, I apologize for that leap to the Isle of Conclusions, and shall aspire to swim back post-haste.
Stamets was very noticeably effected, same with Tyler. He was upset over it.
That certainly wasn't my reading with Stamets, but I imagine we'll have to agree to disagree on that. Tyler was certainly upset that he had killed someone, but whether that beat justified the death of a semi regular who happened to be half of Trek's only overtly gay relationship, I'm not sure. The death, in my view, was played for pure shock value in the moment, and there was little appetite to follow it through - and now it appears they intend to roll it back.
What about his confrontation with Tyler in the corridor?
I kinda feel like Stamets reaction and confrontation with Ash is acted out ambiguously enough to feel either way about it. I can kinda get the 'torn apart on the inside but pushing it back for the mission' from him, but can also easily read as 'not enough emotion at all'. I didn't need him to be blubbering or anything, but it felt pretty glazed over. Maybe dial up the angry eyes just by one or two and I might have been satisfied.
Indeed, you can infer in feelings that I don't think are portrayed, if one wishes. But considering the man has just lost his partner, I felt it was extremely lacking - not just that scene, but the overall portrayal of Stamets after the death. You could even play it as 'no emotional reaction' if you like, but at least have the other characters comment on this and worry about him taking time to grieve. Something to acknowledge the scope of the loss. But the show just seemed to want to shrug it off as a *gasp* moment with little in the way of consequences. A shame given how well they had built up the couple, one of the most believable relationships Trek has ever done.
