Mirror universe Disturbing.

Acenos

whenever i view the intro of "in a Mirror Darkly" i have to admit, it's too painful to watch for me (I'm not kidding when i say that it gave me nightmares about humanity's future) and for me to think about. even the claims that it shows us who we really are and not how Gene Roddenberry perceived us disturbs me to the point of pretending that the mirror universe had a different origin or is completely non-existent. i sometimes see this claim being brought up. why do people believe that the mirror universe is the most likely future of Humanity or Star trek when not viewed through Gene Roddenberry's lens of an optimistic and progressive future?

Actually i find the entire mirror universe too disturbing for my tastes. I usually pretend or wish that it never existed. it's really disturbing to see the way mirror universe characters act or behave. it's almost as though they are prime universe characters acting out of character.

i want to pretend that the mirror universe wasn't caused by humanity's own primal warlike nature. i really want to pretend that an alien invasion substituting WW3 and preceding vulcan first contact started this. i really wanted to disregard the prologue and intro of "in a mirror Darkly" and deem it non-canon or better, "nonexistent". I gives me anxiety everytime i watch it.

Is there anyone in the fandom who feels disturbed or lacks the gall to tolerate the mirror universe? if so, come out and let's talk

One of the points of speculative fiction is to speculate on how such a world could come to be. So, the Mirror Universe offers the opportunity to comment about mankind's potential for savagery. And we are always capable of that.

SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN DISCOVERY

The Mirror Universe, particularly the way DSC portrays it, is definitely a brutal place filled with savagery and truly broken people. I think there is a line in one of the DSC MU episodes about how the Terrans are fearful and live every moment in paranoia, even though their exteriors are hard and calculating. And that really hits home. The other thing that hits home is that even after 7 months to a year of living in our universe, Lorca could not conceive of living in the prime universe...of having a better life, or being part of something better. He was locked into his own way of thinking. It was actually quite tragic.

About @Vger23's "spoiler" (which is not really a spoiler, but I'll go along with it for now)...

It is entirely normal, and not in any way disturbing, that somebody like Lorca would want to return to his home universe. He was born and raised in the MU, after all. Why should he feel at home in the regular universe, which he would no doubt consider excessively weak and pacifistic and, well, boring? All Lorca ever wanted was to go home. Everybody wants that.

It is no more unusual that MU Lorca would want to return to his home universe as it would be for ReguLorca to want to come back to his. Assuming ReguLorca is still alive, and I'm sure he is, he no doubt has been working day and night to find a way back to the regular universe.

Expecting MU Lorca to want to spend the rest of his life in the "Federation universe" is no more realistic than expecting ReguLorca to live out HIS days in the brutal MU. That's one of the most basic desires any living being can ever have - to want to go home. This applies to BOTH versions of Lorca.

That said, I'm wondering if Empress Georgiou still wants to return home as well. She probably doesn't enjoy the Federation universe a hell of a lot either. Certainly no more than MU Lorca did. She's got a throne to retake, after all...

Everyone missed the most disturbing of DiscoMirror spoilers, which is...
MIRROR UNIVERSE HUMANS EAT SENTIENT ALIENS
