Would it have been that hard to have the TNG crew act like people in their free time?
Oh my God, Alara's expressions are priceless. And that's before she starts talking.
The crew is acting like sitcom characters. That is equidistant from people as TNG characters.
I like the nuances of the Mercer/Kelley situation.
Looks like Bortus’ race ages at Alexander pace.
I thought it was a nice Season Premiere; I can't understand why the show can't remain on Sundays?
This was pretty disappointing for a season premier. It was basically an episode comprised of unrelated sub-plots (meaning there was no primary plot at all) with virtually no sci-if or adventure elements whatsoever. It could have been an episode of any cheap half-hour sitcom.
The previews make it look like there are some better episodes coming up. This one was a wet sock.

Loved it. We got reacquainted with the crew, brought up to speed, given a few new bones to gnaw on, and got to watch a Moclan Ja'loja ceremony. I like that Ed and Kelly's relationship isn't so easily zipped up and fixed in a single episode. Should be interesting seeing them going forward. Speaking of relationships, I think Claire has a thing for Isaac whether she realizes it or not. Oh, and the whole Gordon falls for a girl that he ultimately can't even approach subplot was hilarious. Those moments with John and the pep talks, the fashion advice (always have one more zipper than you're comfortable with), and the ultimate payoff was worth every second. We got a slice of life episode to start us off for the new season, and I think that's terrific.

Nobody in real life behaves like sitcom or Orville characters. Their problems are more similar on a superficial level but it’s all pithy and oversimplified and oriented around cliches and punchlines.
Equally unhuman as TNG evolved humanity, just in a different direction, and superficially closer.
And of course it's in a desert.And the Moclan ceremony is every fucking Star Trek ritual scene ever.
So, Ed and Kelly can't date because his feelings for her could compromise his judgement, but it seems like his feelings are compromising his judgement regardless. I'm pretty sure Mercer's actions in this episode qualify as stalking. A less sympathetic first officer would probably be totally justified in filing some sort of formal complaint.
Yeah. She’s probably playing a different character but I suppose it’s possible.
That was a lot more low key then I expected. It wasn't the best episode, but I still kinda enjoyed it as a catch up with the crew after the year hiatus. I still think one of the things this show is great at is portraying these people as real, relatable, people. That's basically what this episode was about, and the potty humor was tactful.
Nice character building episode. It was a slow burn but a nice way to refresh the characters. Glad Gordon got a lot of spotlight.

Yeah, the drive by was hilarious, especially when he got caught and tried to cloak, as if it mattered at that point.Couldn’t stop laughing at the drive by scene with the cloak.
So who’s thinking that new girl is Teleya in disguise?
I like how Season 1 had the crew watch Seinfeld, Meanwhile.
Season 2 had a Jason Alexander guest star.
It's the 21st Century. They would never do that.
