Disco's version of TOS/TAS: Differences

Will do I’ve got to check that out. I guess the fact that the final frontier which was directed by William Shatner was pretty much a failure kinda helps support that point

In Shatner's defense, though, The Final Frontier was probably closest in feel and tone to the original series. Unfortunately, for most, that didn't work as a motion picture. I personally like it a lot, but understand why most wouldn't.

William Shatner shouldn't be too hard on himself. TFF looks more cinematic than Leonard Nimoy's TSFS. A lot of TSFS was shot very plainly, as it if were for TV, and most of the lighting was very flat. I re-watched TWOK and TSFS back-to-back the same night in the fall. The differences in the way they were directed jumped out immediately.

Leonard Nimoy's directing in TVH was a lot better. I don't think a movie like TUC would've been a good fit for William Shatner as a director but if he'd had another movie, and ILM were doing the effects, I think he could've improved the way Nimoy did.

I agree definitely better special facts you’re make me a better plot in his movie could’ve been great.

Also the Klingon cloak wasn't visually perfect, their smaller ships rippled while moving. The Romulan cloak appeared to be visually perfect.
Who knows maybe the enterprise crew just had some amnesia or for the younger crew members didn’t read history lol

You forget that ENT already introduced cloaking technology in the 22nd century several times, starting with "Broken Bow" in fact.

So the idea of cloaking tech being new in "Balance of Terror" has been retconned for 17 years now.
Yes, indeed. Probably due to time travel shenanigans and capering.

Even if ENT did it first, it's still incompatible with TOS.

Did the Disco Klingon ships ripple? I don't recall any such effect before the ramming barge materialized and it had already bisected the USS Europa.

Although it wouldn't explain the Klingon swapout or USS Defiant NCC-1764 change, the idea that Disco is the result of ENT and every other time travel event in Trek (Year of Hell, First Contact, ripples from ST'09 etc) is an appealing one. Of course, it means it's not the same timeline as TOS which is what I've said all along:lol:

The Enterprise in TOS was referred to as a “United Earth Ship”, but we all pretty much ignore that now and file that under “early installment weirdness”. Same with the Eugenics Wars being WWIII before that was made into an event that took place 70 years later. I pretty much regard that the same with the conceit of cloaking tech being new in “Balance of Terror”.

As odd as it sounds but I think it's a blend of both. The Events of TOS will play out but some technology might be different.

Regardless, I can appreciate Disco as prequel to TOS. YMMV.

There was a scene with discovery chasing some BoPs and their cloaks were rippling

The cleave ship was going really quite slow though. You could argue that faster velocities make the disruption easier to detect.

I always figured from what we've seen, that the Klingon Cloaks were only capable of fooling ships sensors.
They were lacking in the visual area due to less stringent engineering standards as compared to the Romulans.

And of course we know that the Romulans always strived to make their cloaks as perfect as possible so their cloaks were visually invisible as well.
And that's what I use in my head-canon to explain the "inconsistencies" from "The Balance of Terror".
When Spock & Kirk were amazed by the Romulan Colak it was because it was visually as well as sensor perfect.

Right, and since the "Into the Forrest I Go" algorithm broke the Klingon cloak, the Romulan device probably works off different fundamentals.

One thing I noticed in 'Into the Forest I go', when the Discovery is jumping around, you can see the 'lighting' refract around the the Klingon ship when it goes behind it.

I like Discovery just fine. It works for me as is. And I couldn't give a TOSs about how everything else fits with it and I can't get bENT out of shape over it either. This is Star Trek now. It's the Prime Universe. The rest, if you want to argue it, maybe we can just call it the Old Universe. Watching the Blu-Rays has strengthened my conviction on this issue.

Well let’s just hope they don’t kill star trek
