Creative Writing, Poetry, Arts & Crafts, and Other Creations Thread

I have it from a third party who already hotlinked it but the image itself contains the address of the original source which is why I thought it'd be ok. I turned it into a hyperlink, so we're on the safe side.

Final draft of a poem I've been working on.

Catching Light

Civilisation only lives in the light,
Desperate to see the unseen.
Deeper searching, when knowledge hides,
Using a time-adapted eye.

Firelit faces seek patterns in flames,
Turning aside the wilder claw,
Bringing to food a better taste,
And holding off the ever-cold.
Animals dance with the burning branch,
Daubed on walls in the deepest caves,
Old Prometheus freely brought his gift,
Fully knowing its two smiles.

The guttering torch in a warrior fort,
Brightens sentries along the wall.
Blades in the forge, glowing red,
Hammered to the finest edge,
Giving way to the power of powder,
All hot orange flame and fury.
A city burns, to light the roads
To razing all the world.

But beacons march across the hills,
Send warning, send pleas for aid.
Flares soar high beyond the horizon,
A turning lighthouse points the way.
New towns alight in darker lands,
Cities become bright drowning pools -
A dazzled gaze can’t turn away,
Falls into them forever.

And the spoken word across the air
Gains thirty two frames a second
And flickering light fills the night
With stories from other days.
Talking heads try to shape a message,
Deception shading meaning,
But lamps glare down on sweating faces,
Illuminating deeper truth.

Messengers to the greater stars
Pushed up into the greater black,
Radio images back to us
Of the fringes of beginning.
Sunjammers with the thinnest sails
Ride solar storms to the edge of elsewhere.
And a million distant galaxies unfold,
In the longest slow reveal.

And finally catching light -
And racing up to tag it,
And racing past and racing fast,
Warping deeper into space and time,
Reflections of our lives and times,
Revealing just where we are.

Always striving,
Always driving,
Ever rising, ever reaching,
Ever catching light.

It rhymes and it doesn’t, the rain on the flowers, grow.
I will kindly let them go, their way to the next day of now.
We ate the matters of conversation like we knew how.
Then told of the mess and importance we avoided on.

Skyline of rain and falling lights in drops of magic know.
The freedom is to be going on in our world and we can be.
Free from now yet bound by thoughts unreal unknown realm
We believed nothing new could exist yet in the myst was this,..

A question for my fellow seamstresses and tailors... Which is better for a sturdy formal princess seam dress, damask or brocade?

Woodworking is a craft, right?

I hope so. If not, I'll bow out.

I am in need of a distraction right now, so I'm helping my housemate with a "little" project. It's a full-size Jodie Whittaker TARDIS to place somewhere on my property.

This is just a building technique study at the moment.

Will be making use of the new bits that my brother bought me for Christmas, along with getting used to some of my newer tools.

That Tardis has its roots in the eighties Tardis, I am sure there were plans for those about somewhere that might help. The technical manual has some awful ones.

Well, it won't be a precise copy of her TARDIS. I'm working for plans that my housemate has drawn up from various high res images on TARDISbuilders.com. We actually built one this summer for his brother in Alabama, but it didn't turn out quite the way he wanted, so we're setting off to do one the way we want.

I'll be starting by creating one column, one wall, two doors, the base, and the roof. Each of those will be cast in fiberglass, which is another skill I've wanted to learn for years and years. The final display piece will be a fiberglass TARDIS with electronics. Along the way, we'll wet and wire brush the wood to enhance the grain as well as muddy it up for the semi-old-plaster-y look of the new TARDIS.

He does have one of the actual types of lamps that was used on top of her TARDIS.

Times like this I wish I had a garden.

I would say so. And even if not all agree, the thread also includes “other creations”, which pretty much covers all creative endeavours. So either way, it’s all good. :)

I hope you continue to post updates. I’m looking forward to seeing this come together.

Decided to just go ahead and follow my friend's plans and model the TARDIS as he's drawn it. I have the basic construction of the columns down, but I'll go back later and figure out how all of this will fit together in reality.

The thing is, now that we've decided to get one of each wood part detailed properly and cast that to create the duplicates, we've decided that we don't need to create everything as permanently as we would if the entire TARDIS were being constructed of wood.

I'll still need to figure out how to build the master parts and later I'll need to work out how to assemble all of the fiberglass pieces, but I need to get a look at the drawing he's done but in 3d, partly to work out any mismatches and kinks, and partly because I just want to accomplish something as soon as possible at the moment. He discovered one issue with the previous TARDIS that he built for his brother after he traveled 1100 miles and was in the middle of assembling it in his brother's store.

Oops.

Anyway, I've been fighting my renderer and trying to get lighting the way I wanted it (yeah, guess I lied and am working on beauty renders, as well) as I'm still learning the ins and outs of V-Ray.

I promise that this will be heading to the physical build as soon as I'm done fully "constructing" it in 3d, including working out all of the actual parts needed and how they'll be assembled.

Just to add the tiniest bit of legitimacy to my intentions, this is the TARDIS that my housemate built for his brother's store this last summer/fall and delivered to him in October. I helped where I was needed, but we'll be working together on the one for my yard.

I've been working on this logic puzzle game for a while. It's far from finished but by now it's more finished than it's unfinished. I'm starting to see the light. :D

I have tested it with Google chrome on a Mac computer only so there might be some problems on other units or browsers.I haven't started any compatibility tests yet. :)

I used to have PSP9 and make a lot of stuff like banners/signatures, headers, avs, that kind of thing. And I'd post them at various boards I was a member of, but I've not done that in awhile. But here's some of the stuff I've made. I'm hoping to get PSP again and get back into making stuff. May have a dabble in making Star Trek related stuff.

I was able to figure out how to mix --- in present time === you know? blend two video feeds together and broadcast that to youtube ... so this is one of the results I also am playing in the background a-top pre recorded works ..

This was NOT my idea nor my craftwork. I know where this image originally came from, but as it's a crowdfunding link I do not feel comfortable sharing it, nor do I think it would pass muster with the mods. ;)

Anyway, I WISH I'd come up with this idea (handcrafted from polymer clay):

towel 4.4.2019.png towel 2nd April 2019.png
I made a thing. It's a towel with little TOS deltas.

It's called counted cross stitch but I miscounted and the two middle deltas are further from each other than they are from the outside ones and I'm not gonna re-do it. So now there's a towel in the bathroom no one can use and only look at but it's done and I am pretty pleased with it.
