    Meh... Odo, hands down

I wonder if O'Brien was the security chief aboard Maxwell's Rutledge, when he was the tactical officer

Definitely Tuvok. His Vulcan nature kept him calm, cool, and collected in any situation.

Eddington. Because before the betrayal he wasnt that bad at his job and kept the peace with Odo for the first part. As for helping the Maquis? Well the feds were wrong there, so..

    I picked Odo.

Primarily because of the difficulty in keeping the peace and security on an open port like DS9. And he was an excellent investigator.

I would put Worf as second place due to how often his suggestions were dismissed. And he DID offer good advice multiple times. I recently rewatched "Samaritan Snare"... he nailed it in one sentence.

"Do we really need to send our CHIEF engineer?"

She was killed by the Tardigrade in her second episode!

I don't know. He thwarted Seven's plan to incapacitate the intruders in Scientific Method, for one thing. Because of him Janeway nearly killed the whole crew with her insane riposte.

The security chief on Discovery. She was security chief longer than Chekov was, yet he gets a poll option and she doesn't. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You know, Chekov doesn't get enough credit.

He was the living embodiment of a jack of all trades. He took over science duties when Spock was in command or not present, he was navigator, he did security... he was everywhere. He was XO of the Reliant. I think he would make an excellent captain, because a leader should have a good understanding of all the jobs under his command.

One of the best leadership quotes I ever heard was from Colonel Jack O'Neill in the STARGATE SG-1 episode "SHADES OF GREY".

"The best way to understand a command is to do every job yourself at least once."

It's something I try to live by, as well. And something that I look for with managers and bosses.

Ah ok, that explains it then.

I've amended the poll to include other candidates and increased the number of votes you can have, so first and second favourite.

For some godforsaken reason, she's also the highest ranking security chief we've ever seen.

As much as I love Odo, he wasn't a security officer like we see in Starfleet. Either Worf or Tuvok for me.

In that case, it would be Tuvok because Worf was too much of a mess. For example (among thousands) when in "The Drumhead" he grabs the Klingon suspect that he's supposed to bring to his quarters and threatens him, that's way too unprofessional. Even a barely adequate security chief is supposed to be impartial and only resort to violence in response to violence. If that act was witnessed, Worf should have been at the very least suspended for that and likely stripped of his position.

Odo. Period. End of story. He's the Bob Mueller meets Batman of Star Trek.

    Tuvok is the runner-up.

Worf is better at Tactical than Security. And "Hippocratic Oath" shows exactly why Odo is a better Security Chief. Odo sees a bigger picture than Worf.

Chekov doesn't even know that phasers set to kill set off the alarm. He's a great navigator and a back-up science officer but Security Chief material he's not.

I don't know enough about Reed to really comment on him. All I know is he likes to develop weapons.

We don't see much of Yar, so I can't comment on her. My god-sister who's an army veteran and now a corrections officer likes her, though. But speaking of corrections officers...

... that brings us to Landry. Unfortunately she turned just to be Tartigrade fodder. Before that, what little we saw of her made her seem more like a Head Prison Guard than anything else. "Time to feed the animals." I think they intentionally tried to make her seem unlikable so no one would care if she was killed off. She might've been interesting to have long-term but it wasn't to be.

Eddington was a Security Risk not a Security Chief. Odo may have had to coordinate with Eddington in Starfleet matters but Odo was still the Security Chief dealing with station security and his jurisdiction went beyond just Starfleet matters. It extended to the entire station and surrounding area, including surrounding space, which concerned matters not always dealing with or directly dealing with the Federation.

I don't know anything about Ingersol.

Poor Landry should get at least one vote, as she's "Best Redshirt Eatin' By An Alien Monster"!

Did the tardigrade eat her? I thought it just shredded her to pieces.
