Starship design history in light of Discovery

Well his daughter(?) was pretty upset that they used his UFP Logo in Discovery.

But that might have been because they did it without permission.

That's exactly why. CBS is used to bulldozing fan-made stuff because they own all the IP ... EXCEPT for the FJ estate-related stuff, by legal contract. They overstepped because normally it wouldn't be an issue. Sauce for the goose...they should be the ones to go to the daughter, hat in hand, offering forgiveness and monetary compensation for the use of her father's work. In the interest of amity, it would be cool of her to bury the hatchet and allow his work to be reintroduced back into hard canon and out of soft canon, where it's resided pretty much since TMP's use of his schematics on the bridge monitors and Epsilon 9 comms traffic.

Saw a TOS Style Malachowski on reddit, some of you might like this

That's what at least some of these new starships should have looked like to begin with! There's nothing wrong with some new designs but just ignoring the TOS aesthetic with the exception of the Enterprise herself just makes the entire time period depicted in the new series feel out of place with the rest of the franchise.

Most likely the Enterprise came about after Fuller left the show. In fact I'm positive it did. Based on the timeline John Eaves gave for designing it.

One of the guys from Eaglemoss claimed it should be easy to them to get the rights, but I don't know.

That would be awesome if true. I would love to see his original TOS designs get the Eaglemoss treatment. I don't think licensed versions of those models have existed since the early days of Task Force Games miniatures for Star Fleet Battles.

Some DSC Concept art, labelled as the USS Jefferies.
