MLB Offseason 2018-19: SIGN KIMBREL AND KEUCHEL YOU FUCKS

I just realized something...when Robinson Cano was with the Mariners, he couldn't wear #24 (because of Ken Griffey Jr). So why can he wear it with the Mets? How exactly the hell is Willie Mays less worthy of having the number honored than Griffey?

(especially since, after Mays retired, Joan Whitney Payson promised that the Mets would never issue that number again...)

Maybe the Mets are rebooting? :shifty:

I don't know, maybe because Mays played a grand total of 135 games for the Mets, and everyone remembers him as a Giant?

The Cards sign reliever Andrew Miller to a 2 year contract. Story.

Meanwhile, the Cubs signed Daniel Descalso, also to a 2 year deal. Story.
The Cub's "window" may already be closed if that's the best they're gonna do.
They've also lost Daniel Murphy, Jesse Chavez and Justin Wilson (so far) to other teams.

Rumor just reported on Local Fox affiliate: Reds shipping Homer Bailey and some pieces to the Dodgers for Alex Wood, Matt Kemp and Yasiel Puig. Some cash is supposed to be trading hands as well.

EDIT: Made it to MLB Rumors as well...

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/12/report-dodgers-reds-finalizing-a-significant-trade.html

3:38pm: Righty Josiah Gray and infielder Jeter Downs are going to Los Angeles, Bob Nightengale of USA Today tweets.

The Reds will get another player and some cash in the swap, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic adds on Twitter.

tweets3:35pm: Matt Kemp, Yasiel Puig, and Alex Wood are all heading to Cincinnati, Passan tweets. Righty Homer Bailey and more will go in return. “Prospects and possibly international bonus slots” are also included in the deal, per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic (via Twitter), who adds that Bailey has waived his no-trade protection.

Wow...the Dodgers must be really desperate to offload payrolls if they're willing to trade Matt Kemp, Yasiel Puig, and Alex Wood for fucking Homer Bailey and prospects.

Gotta clear space for signing Bryce, I'm guessing they release Homer the end of the day.

Reds now have half a dozen corner OF's.

Oh, but the Cubs have signed Kendall Graveman coming of TJ surgery. All the pieces are in place now.

I guess they're just repeating what they did last year with Drew Smyly. What on Earth is the thought process in the Cubs' front office?

If they keep up with the "we aren't going to make a splash" in the FA market, I think we can consider the one WS win "it". Milwaukee & St. Louis are loading up, and we barely stayed ahead of them last couple years.

I mean, literally everyone on the team could play to their potential all at once, that would give us a chance. But what are the odds?

Well, I mean, they DFA'd Smyly--who was very much on track to be pitching again in spring training--to clear room for a new contract for noted piece of shit domestic abuser Addison Russell. They've got Maddon riding out a lame-duck year. And now they've once again signed a guy who isn't expected to pitch until 2020. They've done nothing but addition by subtraction and I don't understand it. (Well, I do, because the Rickettses are interested in money above all and with everything they've done with the area and all the jacked-up ticket prices, Wrigley is a license to print money, but...)

Holy shit, Jon Miller lost a ton of weight:
