I just realized something...when Robinson Cano was with the Mariners, he couldn't wear #24 (because of Ken Griffey Jr). So why can he wear it with the Mets? In what way is Willie Mays less worthy of having the number honored than Griffey?
(especially since, after Mays retired, Joan Whitney Payson promised that the Mets would never issue that number again...)
