News The Disney+ (The New Streaming Service) Thread

I noticed we didn't have a thread dedicated to the Disney+ streaming service, so I thought I'd go ahead and start one for general news and information about the service. Since pretty much everything we've heard about see far is sci-fi or fantasy I'd figured I'd go ahead and put it here.
Original Series, I'm not sure how many are definitely happening and how many are just rumored:

• Star Wars

1. The Mandalorian (definite)
   
2. Cassian Andor (definite)
3. The Clone Wars Season 7 (definite)

• Marvel

1. Loki series
2. Scarlet Witch & Vision (or is it just Scarlet Witch)
3. The Falcon and Winter Soldier/White Wolf

They have said that, unlike other services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and CBS All Access all of their content with be family friendly, with none of it going beyond the kind of content we see in the Star Wars and Marvel movies.
I'm pretty sure there are at least a couple other things that have been mention for Disney+, but I can't remember what they were.
Has anybody heard anywhere if what kind of old movies and shows we can expect to see? I'm hoping they'll have all of the old animated movies like Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, ect.
I don't know how likely it is but I would love to see them the animated shows from the '90s like Aladdin, Chip & Dale Rescue Rangers, Talespin and Darkwing Duck. I used love them as a kid, but I haven't seen them in over 20 years and I would love to watch them again.

 

Yeah more content to pay for that use to go straight to tv channels. So pay for Prime, Hulu, Netflix, DC Univese, CBS All Access and now Disney all Access. And better pay close to $100 for internet to watch them all. Wonders if just going back to cable was better and cheaper?

 

Disney would be insane not to put most of their back catalog on the service. I can't see how a vault-like strategy makes them more money here. I want to watch the old 1940s through the 1970s Disney shorts, and they aren't available anywhere right now.

 

I want some of the 80s Disney movies like Oliver and Company on this service. Was the 80s just a really dark time before Little Mermaid for Disney?

 

Is this a global thing or more local by regions or even different territories?

 

I don't think I've seen them mention if it's going to be a worldwide thing or not.

 

Amen. I've always thought the vault strategy was stupid and obnoxious. I get why they do it (so I don't need a lecture on why) but I still find it very frustrating.

 

I believe it's only been announced for the US so far.

 

It looks like it will just be available in the US on launch.

There is actually a subscription service called DisneyLife, so reading "between the lines" as Disney don't plan on launching this outside of Europe, Life will carry content from Plus, or they'll be merged down the line.

 

That vault thing drives me nuts too, I always manage to decide I want to see one the old animated movies again after it's "gone back in the vault", and then I can't find it anywhere.

 

Despite what Bob Iger said about Disney+ including the entire Disney film library, they will not be including Song of the South, and not only that, but they will also be cutting the scene with the crows out of Dumbo.

 

Not a surprise for either of those. That was pretty much expected by most people, especially Song of the South.

 

Yeah, I was surprised when Iger said the entire film library, but I'm thinking he must have either forgotten about Song or was hoping people wouldn't take him that literally.
I'm really hoping they include the old Disney Afternoon shows at some point. I loved Chip & Dale: Rescue Rangers, Talespin, the Aladdin series, and the Little Mermaid series as a kid and I would love to check them out as an adult. I have found Chip & Dale and Talespin on Amazon, botht on DVD and digitally, but I've never seen season or series sets for Aladdin or Little Mermaid. I've been thinking about eventually buying at least the first seasons of C&D and TS, but now I'm definitely going to wait .

 

I hope the old Disneyland show is included, some of them focus on building the parks and rides showing the whole process. The space episodes are pretty fascinating too, just to see how far we’ve come. Their Mars episode ends with it not being 100% clear Martians aren’t real, probably not but we can’t know for sure with then current technology.

 

I'm really excited about Disney+. They have a lot of strong content. Must see content since it's Star Wars and Marvel. While Marvel and Star Wars aren't my all time favorite things I do like them a lot and they are usually the movies or shows I can most easily watch with other people around me.

 

Me too. Not just for the new stuff, but for all of the old animated movies too, I'm a huge Disney fan and I haven't watched most of them since I was a kid, so I look forward to watch them on Disney+.

 

I have lost interest in Marvel and (surprisingly) Star Wars, so I will pass on this.

I just watched a few of those Disneyland shows - pretty good! They built Disneyland in under a year - that's simply unfathomable these days!

 

What content would go to the TV channels? Most of the original content being listed here seems like it will be much higher budget than anything you'd see on basic TV - if anything it would have gone to a premium channel, for which you'd have to pay anyway.

Think about it this way - any time you want your Disney fix, you can pay $7, watch as many movies that month as you'd like, and cancel. If you were to rent these movies from Redbox on Blu Ray you'd be able to get 3 of them, so if you watch more than 3 during your $7 you ended up ahead - but thing is Redbox doesn't even have most of these movies. If you were to rent a stream you'd basically get 2, or less movies for the price of a month of unlimited access.

This service is a REALLY good deal.
