What would you use the holodeck for?

Would you use the holodeck for sexual purposes?

I'd take up donations from the rest of the crew in terms of their own precious energy transfers and holodeck time, promising to create a non-commercial holodeck experience about the Battle of Axanar. I would then laugh and tell them they haven't heard the last of Harcourt Fenton Mudd and fly away in the new office/studio ship I'd replicated.

Probably I'd use it to simulate what it would have been like to have a dull office job in the early 21st century on a monday morning. Now since the holodeck (and the 24th century) doesn't exist yet, I'll have to settle for the real life experience of it.

Would you be able to delete your Holodeck History after you're done?

I am guessing with the same limitations as we are today with our internet history.

There should be safeguards against someone intruding on someone else's program the way Garak did with Bashir though. ( What if Bashir was doing things more intimate at the time it happened?)

I would create myself a massage therapist. Enjoying several back massages.....
The therapist shouldn't be Klingon, though.....:D :klingon:

Playing in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals, Triple Overtime too. Of course, I score the winning goal. Then I celebrate by having sex with some playoff groupies.

I would simulate by best vacation spots and get there instantly instead of after hours of travel.

I’m not sure I’d like that, at least as a substitute for vacation. It’d be too predictable. The people you meet would be algorithmically generated, no real uniqueness. Although it would be nice to recreate places that are super crowded in real life and remove the crowds.

Or any variation of sports or adventure where I am the hero and there’s a pre programmed result. Without the surprise and the realness, and having to earn victory, what’s the point?

I’d use the holodeck for games but they’d be games I can win or lose, and have to play well and get better before I win.

So long as there's no real danger. I am sure that there are nuts who'd like to live the "real" experience including the possibility of being injured or even die, but they would have to tamper with their holodecks as the law is unlikely to allow that.

Would the Federation pull a Tumblr and ban all adult content, creating a huge backlash across the galaxy?

I'd like to think that in the future the prudes will not get the upper hand as they do today in certain countries. I hear that they have to remove certain scenes in all public movies in France to make them acceptable to some countries... That or pixelize some parts of the screen which likely would be even worse!

Well you wouldn't want to offend people would you?
Do I think there would have to be restrictions.
Would 50 year old Picard with his level 7 clearance want to see some holodeck movie of 21 year old me and him getting it on?
I think not! It could offend him.

I have a problem with people being prosecuted for thought-crime.

Of course but it goes beyond a thought crime if the other person can watch your thoughts. Or worse yet, see them as if it's real.
Maybe.
I'm sure everyone has been the object of someone else's fantasy.
But would you REALLY want to know?
See it?

That's why you should be strictly forbidden to enter someone else's holodeck simulation unless invited to by the persons themselves.

We have a good illustration of that with Tuvok making a simulation where he strangles Neelix.

The Orville posed an interesting holoprogram that I think socially awkward people would use. Practice hitting on women or other forms of social interaction. With fine tuned amount of resistance.

The idea of using it for social practice in general. It could be a very useful tool for people to get direct social feedback to help detect and eliminate negative things people perceive in them without realizing it.
