Agents of SHIELD: Season 6

I thought of something earlier today, could they have written Coulson (and May) out of at least the early episode of the next season of AoS, so he could go film Captain Marvel?

Not impossible, but I honestly doubt it. His role in Captain Marvel is probably fairly minor, so it probably didn't take all that long and there doesn't appear to have been any significant overlap. Also, unless I've missed something there's no mention of Ming Na also showing up, so writing them both out for this doesn't make much sense.

Maybe not then. I still find it unlikely that this is the last we've seen of Coulson and May.
I finished up last season, and damn those last 3 or 4 episodes were great.

He's big enough that's he's credited on the poster with the other main actors. Though that could be a contract thing.

... Man, I don't expect much in the way of AoS acknowledgement, but if Coulson doesn't so much as mention Agent May in Captain Marvel, I will throw things at the screen. :p

Season 6 has wrapped and we still don't know a damn thing about it.
It's not premiering until July, so that might be why. Isn't that pretty far away for a show that already finished production? I thought most shows usually started just a couple months before the season started and continued filming pretty close to the end of the season.

Coulson probably hasn't met May yet as of Captain Marvel. According to the MCU Wiki, he was already Director Fury's right-hand man when he first met May, and Fury doesn't seem to be Director yet at the time of the film.

Naturally the show has to postpone its release until after Avengers: Endgame comes out, to avoid spoilers. If a show's broadcast date is that far in the future, there's plenty of time to wrap up production well in advance. It's more common now that shows have shorter seasons (and of course essential for shows on streaming services that drop the whole season at once).

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too. If they throw us any AOS bones during Captain Marvel, I will gladly take any and all of them. But I'm not expecting much. The simple fact that Coulson is in it is enough for me though.

Holy shit, I just thought of something super spoilery
What if Coulson really did die at the end of Season 5? We've heard that time travel may be involved with Avengers Endgame, right? What if Thor or Cap or someone grabs Coulson out of the past, before he dies, and brings him fully healthy to the present day, post Avengers Endgame? That would be a very appropriate full-circle type of story for Avengers 4.

Less than 1% chance of that happening, but hey, it's a fun crazy idea, right?

I don't think it was ever explicitly stated exactly when May & Coulson first met, but one does get the impression it was fairly early on in their careers, possibly straight out of the academy. That said, they may not have been formerly partnered up until much later after they've worked their way up the ranks.

Oh and the MCU wiki is kinda notorious for it's editors being a little over eager about filling in the blanks, so I really wouldn't credit anything it says that doesn't have a direct, verifiable citation. Indeed, I'm not 100% sure Fury is even the Director yet at the time of 'Captain Marvel'...which would raise the question that with Howard Stark dead & Peggy retired, who would be in charge? Stoner? Carson?

With all that in mind...yes it would be nice for May to be name-dropped in CM, but while there's certainly ample reasons why she *could* be, there's no in-universe reason why she *should* be and I wouldn't hold out much hope that she will be.

This is where Coulson and May recount their first mission together. Fury isn't even mentioned.

Here is another later flashback to an early mission. In it, May tells Phil that he should try sunglasses. He already has sunglasses in the CM trailer. Oh, how the timeline has been destroyed.

(And I am honestly surprised that the two clips I was thinking of were so easy to find.)

^From those clips we can infer several things: -
1) They didn't know each other at the academy, probably because...
2) Coulson didn't come from Operations (and he's certainly not SciTech, so it's Comms, which tracks with him starting out as an analyst.)
3) Judging by the way Ming is playing it, May seems quite young but not green, so I'm guessing this is the early 90's. (Aviators continuity is preserved! ;) )
4) Their first mission together probably wasn't the one where they posed as a married couple (since coffee shops generally don't require bra removal) and yet both of them took place quite a while before even that earlier mission with the unnamed McGuffin, meaning...
5) Said first mission was probably when they were fresh out of the academy, so maybe early to mid-80's, which means logically, Fury wouldn't have been Director when they met.

I'm hoping season 6 addresses Thanos' finger snap and ties in with Avengers Endgame.

They have been very good with that and having the show wait until July actually works out very well because Infinity War will be resolved by then.

I just want to know why Coulson's hair in the above clip doesn't match the Captain Marvel trailer. ;)
Well obviously one of them is a Skrull! ;)

The smart money is on The Snap being not just undone, but removed from the timeline. In which case from the perspective of the AoS cast it didn't happen at all. Indeed, the last scene of the season 5 finale may technically be post 'Endgame' where George is alive and Biff has gone back to waxing cars again...
