Artists owe the audience nothing other than whatever they produce—novels, paintings, music, films, etc. They most certainly do NOT owe the audience satisfaction. Conversely, the audience does not owe artists approval. Artists put out their creative works (which should always be a reflection of what they—NOT the audience—want to create) and audiences are then free to like, dislike, praise or condemn, or express indifference.
IF an artist (or group of such) chooses to “listen to the fans”, they are free to do so (though that’s usually a fruitless undertaking given the impossibility of satisfying “the fans” as an aggregate group). However, such a choice should NEVER be considered an obligation nor are “the fans” OWED any particular consideration ahead of time.
