I just watched the first episode of this on Netflix and I thought it was good. Anybody else around here watch it? For those unaware of it, it's a long running Canadian drama that follows a family run horse ranch up in the Canadian mountains.
Just started myself - like it, a bit of a feel-good family drama among all the high-speed action/superhero shows.
That's the same reason I started it, I just wanted something less dark and violent than most of the other stuff I watch. I've also been checking out horse and horseback riding stuff as research for my story. The characters in my story own and ride horses, but my only experience with them was a handfull of riding lessons 20+ years ago, when I was a very young kid, that I have absolutely no memory of. I figure watching something like this could be pretty helpful.
I'll keep that one in mind. Do either of you know about horses? I've done some research on Wikipedia on general stuff like terminology, breeds, tack, and stuff like that, but there are a few more specific things I've been wondering about I haven't found on there.
About how long and far could you ride before you'd need to stop and rest your horse? If breed matters, the horses are American Quarter Horses and a Friesian.
I'm sorry I can't help with specific questions - my own experience with horses is as limited as your own, riding lessons an eon ago...
No problem, I just thought I'd give it a try. Watched the second episode today, with the first appearance of Green Arrow. It's weird seeing Stephen Amell so young and clean cut. So when does Tatiana Maslany first pop up?
Early Season Two. Final appearance seems to be about two seasons later. From what I recall, she was only ever really a minor recurring character in the series. Although she was in something of a relationship triangle with the two main leads (Amy and Ty), she was never really Amy's 'rival', which was more Ashley, at least in the early series (and almost the entire run of the books).
OK, cool. I have to admit, it's always kind of fun watching the early of characters like Amy & Ty when you know where they're going to end. Does Amy eventually teach Ty to ride horses? She made a comment about going riding some time, and said he'd rather stick to motorcycles, but I've seen pictures and clips of them riding together.
IIRC it was kinda a group effort between much of Team Heartland (Amy, Jack, Mallory*) Who is probably the most different to her book counterpart (who was the daughter of a shoeshop owner and a Amy Fleming fangirl, rather than a close friend of the family).
I just watched episode 3 this morning, and holy crap Mallory was annoying here. She didn't bother me before, but this time she drove me crazy.
My mom watched most of it in one sitting, I swear. It's not the kind of TV I like, but I did see an episode here and there.
Good god, season 12 begins next month? Will have to check it out. I knew this show had legs, but I had no idea...
*Nods* Longest running in Canadian broadcasting history last I heard. I've only seen about the first half so far myself...
