Buck is literally on record saying that he finds baseball boring. He does it strictly for the paycheck and because of his old man's legacy.
I would wager that he feels the same about football or anything else he calls. You can tell he finds no joy in it whatsoever.
When he's paired with John Smoltz, he's tolerable if only because I've learned how to tune him out while listening to Smoltz's useful and engaging commentary.
If only they could just chuck Buck and find Smoltz a better partner, but I know that won't happen.

For one of the Cubs games, maybe the playoff game, they had Len Kasper paired with Smoltz. It was alright. Tons better without Buck for damn sure.
You've got to see him play. Like I said, nothing jumps out in the numbers, but he has a knack for getting the big hit, making the outstanding field play, stealing the base when the team needs it. He's only 5'5". He is like a spark plug for a team.
Yeah, I remember that game. Kasper was all right but mostly because he wasn't Buck.
On the flip side, I'm just grateful I don't have to listen to Tim McCarver's inane prattle anymore.
I like Len & J.D. They aren't the best, but not annoying either. Maybe they're just the devils I know.
Of course, I was a big Harry Carey fan, and Steve Stone was OK paired with Harry.
Len Kasper is easily one of the top PBP guys in baseball today. DeShaies is a decent color guy, but he gets pretty cranky when Len starts talking about advanced statistics and it occasionally makes the broadcasts a bit awkward.
I met Len once (a former boss' sister is married to him and he was in Madison), and he's just the chillest dude ever.

The Cubs traded pinch hitter Tommy LaStella to the Angels for PTBN or cash.
La Stella was decent at getting on base, even though he was a crybaby who sat for a while instead of reporting to Iowa. Maddon fucking loved him.
Please, God, do not let this mean that the Cubs are going to somehow get Maddon's favorite toy, Chris Coghlan, again.

Just seems like an odd deal for a team that definitely needs to rebuild.
