Pinewood nice! i would love to check that out someday if I even get to England. Were they doing and Star Wars related shooting when you were there?
All I can say is they are pretty much ALWAYS doing something Lucasfilm related at Pinewood. :-) I was working on something with a flying elephant at the time.

I don't know how much his warehouse costs or how much the stage they filmed Prelude on cost, but in my town (which is pretty third-world) there is a video studio available for the equivalent of less than $300 per day that is fully soundproof, has proper power supply, has a large greenscreen, gives free access to a lighting kit, has a lounge and dressing rooms, plus offers rental of camera gear. And this is in a South African town that has virtually no filmmaking presence. When you get outdone by something over here, it is the ultimate humiliation.

Maybe his corporate sponsor will invest in a lighting grid for him. Last year when I was filming on sets at Pinewood and Elstree I'd giggle thinking about Alec and his world's largest green screen he bragged about when he was in CA.

Gotta keep the lightning grid under 100A... well actually probably until 50-75A so there is power for cameras and such.

100 Amps for filming!!! That's not enough to operate a 12 channel mixer (which takes 120 amps) I guess there is always flashlights and iPhones! Well, in reality it doesn't matter; Axanar will never film anything.

120A? Seriously? That would equate to 14+ kilowatts (assuming 120V)... for a mixer?

I think you're getting your units confused. :)

If you break it down, that means for every 600 watts you have, you need 5 amps. A 12-channel, 1200 watt-per-channel dimmer then will need 120 amps to power it all.

You said "mixer" before. Maybe that's the point of confusion.

Yup. I associate "mixer" with audio. "Fader" or "Dimmer" would go with lighting (which would make perfect sense, at least with older stage lighting; not sure what power LEDs have done to the power requirements in that market, as I've not messed with high-end stage lighting in decades.).

LOL there was a pic a couple months ago of the set and I pointed out the problems with it, namely the inadequate electrical and lack of sound proofing.

That does not mean the place can't be retrofitted, however. Cawley's old studio was a former used car dealership/garage and I was always amazed at how it was setup to film. Still, there were some issues, like filming when it was raining, the noise from the rain on the roof made the dialog recording pretty useless and you had to use ADR to fix everything. These days, I find that ADR is used to replace much of the original dialog track anyways, at least on productions i have been involved with.

BTW, I await the upcoming Axanar crowdfunding drive to upgrade the studio! ;)

Jespah, if you make any pies, I may have to drive a little bit north to get some. :)
I'm still hoping to get HaterCon- New England Edition running one of these days.

Any idea how many amps it takes to run a full Hollywood style studio, where you would film things like Star Wars or Marvel movies, or TV shows like Doctor Who or The Expanse?

Nope, but the whole building he's in is identical in every way to the 2000' sqft warehouse that we filmed in for two years in Albany Georgia (after we gave Linda her carport back). We even had a 200 amp service. It was perfect for our needs, and I'm sure it will be fine for his.

Possibly, but that really depends on how much equipment he's using. I worked a film shoot at an air museum once where we kept popping the circuit breakers because their equipment plus ours was pulling too much load. Professional grip gear pulls a lot more juice than what most fanfilms use.

I doubt HE will ever film anything other than update videos on the set.........however if he is trying to rent it out it may be a problem.

Peter's just informed me publicly that he's lost his respect for me.

I knew I should have called it a night at dinner and drinks.
Knock that off..... I just spat a swig of coffee all over my monitor because of you....LOL

So are there any pics of Axacon in all its glory? Meet and greets, autograph signings, photo ops?

The only thing I fast-forwarded through was just AP and Gary Graham on a cell phone video. Did Hertzler show up? How many attendees? I've not seen His Majesty boasting of Axacon's success.

Pray tell, citizens, what news?
