Romulan Women

A thought just popped into my head, about how Trek has a habit of creating memorable Romulan women who guest in an episode or two then vanish from our screens never to be heard from again.

Such as the Commander from TOS, T'Rul, Cretak, to name a few. Each of them could've become a recurring character (even just for a season) to help flesh out a species we still don't know all that much of--especially when compared to the (overused) Klingons.

I'm sure there are probably some Romulan males that had their moments, but in my mind it always seems to be the women that make a much bigger impact.

Also, Andreas Katsulas agreed to come back, while none of these ladies did. Tomalak would have been memorable from his first appearance alone, though.

I thought Katsulas' acting All Good Things was rather... strange. But overall he played Tomalak very well.

The challenge I think of an episodic TV show is creating memorable protagonists for the main cast to interact with, but keeping the focus on the primary characters' development.
Deep Space Nine, towards the end, had a massive cast of guests and numerous side plots which became a challenge to follow and took something away from the core group of characters.

Replacing someone, or a additional character? If the latter where would she be, hopefully not killed in the teaser Senate scene.

Maybe replacing Donatra, but having a slightly different character arc in the film. I thought Donatra was a cool character, but too many characters in a movie makes things meander.

I'm not sure?

If the Senate were still largely murdered, and Sela despite being given greater depth as a character couldn't be redeemed and would have threatened the quadrant, just rank/age up Donatra and have her help the heroes. As well as become someting of a new rular like she does in the books, only for the entire Empire.

I actually had a similar thought yesterday while reading an old TNG book. A lot of memorable Romulan females and a lot of memorable Klingon males.

There are some great male Romulan characters though, like Tomalak, Mark Lenard in BoT, and Brian Thompson on ENT.

Romulan woman gonna probe your mind
Romulan woman gonna probe your mind
Romulan woman she's gonna probe... your... mind

(If you're over 40 or musically savvy then mentally you're doing the "duh-duh duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh duh-duh duh-duh..." thing right now)

Romulan woman, stay away from me
Romulan woman, your Warbirds make me flee
Don't come hangin' around Bajor
I don't wanna see your changing faces no more
I got more important things to do
Than spend my time growing 250 years old with you
Now woman, I said stay away,
Romulan woman, use those ears to listen what I say-ay-ay.

Romulan woman, get away from me
Romulan woman, set the Remans free
Don't go callin' the Tal Shiar
Just 'cause you're the daughter of Tasha Yar
Cloaking device can fool your eyes
Sparkle someone else's skies
Now woman, I said get away
Romulan woman, don't fire your disruptor ray-ay-ay.

Romulan woman, in your Bird-of-Prey
Romulan woman, Hobus please blow her away
Don't come hangin' 'round the Neutral Zone
Blue ale hangovers always make me groan
I don't wanna hang out beneath your raptor's wings
I don't need your matte painting city scenes
Those Reman guys enter your mind
But they're not easy on the eyes
Now woman, turn on your engine's singularity
Romulan woman, it's time for you to leave-eve-eve.

Go, gotta get away, gotta get away
Now cloak cloak cloak
Gonna beam you, woman
Gonna beam you, woman
Jolan-tru
Jolan-truuuu
Jolan-tru
Jolan-truuuu

You're no good for the galaxy
Stiles was right about you
Treaty of Algernon for you to sign
Tell you what I want you to do
You know you gotta leave
You know you gotta go
Leave for half a century, woman

No offense intended to the Head Romulan in Charge. :rommie:

Charvanek impressed me when I read some TOS novels featuring her. (Vulcan's Heart, Vulcan's Soul).

The Romulan commander in TNG's "Face of the Enemy" was supposed to be her. They tried to get Joanne Linville to return but she wasn't available.
