MLB Offseason 2018-19: SIGN KIMBREL AND KEUCHEL YOU FUCKS

Then, every day there'd be one team in each tier with no one to play.
If that's an issue (I don't think so as there will always be a need to have days off) you could go 14 and 16 with the teams.
Shorten the season, also. With the new leagues would come new record books.

Interesting. While I can see why one could suggest that, I'm not sure I like taking that drastic a change. Just me though.

Timby's right, the ludicrous luxury tax percentages are going to make teams stay under it. I know I would if I were an owner...

Shouldn't we have a "minimum team salary"? Jeeesh, didn't that have to put in rules to make owners that were in receipt of the tax from other teams spend it on the players?

There is a better chance of Bud Selif and Donald Fehr writing a book about how much they love each other then there is of MLB or the Players going to a promotion/relation system.

That's why the MLBPA filed a grievance against Oakland, Miami, Tampa and Pittsburgh earlier this year. The CBA dictates that any revenue sharing money must be used to "improve on-field performance," and the way that money is spent has to be recorded and reported to both the league office and the union. The MLBPA has alleged that those four teams have just pocketed it.

Pretty much. League revenue dictates revenue sharing dollars, you're running into issues with player compensation and media rights and the union would have a hell of a case with the NLRB in such a system.

I like the idea of a premier league system in baseball but owners would never go for it. And baseball fans aren’t exactly in the demographic that accepts change well.

It would give more incentive to spend and make the top league more competitive without the need for stricter salary caps.

Turns out the Office of the Commissioner of Major League Baseball PAC donated $5000, the maximum amount, to Cindy Hyde-Smith's reelection campaign. Charles B. Johnson, the co-owner of the San Fransisco Giants, also recently donated $2700.

You know, the Mississippi senator who "joked" about public hangings and voter suppression, went to segregated school, and wore a Confederate soldier uniform and captioned the photo with "Mississippi history at its finest!"

Since being called out on social media, the PAC has asked for the money back.

MLB has also asked for their money back.

Doesn't change the fact they donated to her in the first place, nor how they didn't ask for the money until after they were called out. The fact she's an awful human being is not news.

Edit: Also, the contribution was made on Friday.

I just find it amazing that these people think nobody's going to find out when they make scummy little moves like this.

Especially since it was discovered from a publicly released FEC report. That's an extra special kind of stupid.

Good write-up and I understand the concerns regarding minor league baseball, but that still doesn't excuse MLB's ignorance. Are they really trying to claim they hadn't heard about any of the deeply racist shit Hyde-Smith has said in the last few weeks? Each incident was national news.

Again, they made the donation on Friday and they only asked for their donation back after Twitter called them out on their shit.

MLB successfully lobbied to exempt minor-league players from minimum-wage and overtime requirements under the FLSA, with the hideous "Save America's Pastime Act." Of course they're going to feign ignorance.

Ugh, I had forgotten about that shit.

Yeah, of course, they're going to pretend they didn't know better.

Brian McCann signs a one year deal with the Braves. This is no sign and retire but to actually be on the 40 man roster.

These moves means the Braves are going to be a legit World Series contender again. They needed some veteran experience.

Jason

With Cleveland finally moving on from Chief Wahoo, I wonder if #ChopOn and the chop they do throughout the game in Atlanta will be next. I went to a game there in the summer and wondered how they kept getting away with it with the controversy in Cleveland.

Well, they still need some serious pitching. Hitting wasn't their problem this season.

About damn time.

And yeah, it's time to retire the tomahawk chop.
