Disney just released a teaser for the new live action remake of The Lion King coming in 2019. Looks epic! The scene with all the animals bowing to the new lion king gave me chills. WOW!

    Looks spectacular.

I certainly look forward to reading about and seeing "How They Did It," with attention to how much and what is synthesized vs how much and what is sampled. It looks like a combination of real (trained) animals and animated animals both. Maybe they used the whole bag of tricks.

Won't be the same without Irons and Lane.

As tired as I am with Disney's new trend of making live-action productions of their animated classics, I have to say that this does look amazing.

Besides, I have to watch it for the perfect casting of John Oliver as Zazu. :D

Yeah, this, too. He was by far the best part of the original film and I'm thrilled he's returning.

When I saw John Oliver in the cast list I got even more excited! He’s going to be an awesome Zazu!

From what I understand, there's no real animals at all.

Ok, that looks amazing! I like the look of the cinematography. It looks like they copied the scenes from the animated movie, but taking advantage of the natural landscape. Looks absolutely beautiful. Seeing Elton John in the credits made me wonder if they're using the original music recorded for the animated movie and maybe add a few songs as well.

Oh, sure, it looks fine when you don't see any photorealistic CG animals talking to each other with not a single human in sight...

    The author says

it doesn’t take a scholar to look at the trailer and realize that there are no live-action performances onscreen.

With the rhetorical device "it doesn't take a scholar" that's not a neutral assertion of journalistic fact. And the author clearly has an ax to grind. These aren't reasons to doubt what the author is saying, but I think we'll be able to do much better in terms of finding out what's what.

Uhm.. why should i rewatch a shot for shot remake of a classic animation movie? Just because CGI has progressed to the point of being able to do realistic animals?

Thank you.. i'll stick to the original in this case.

If it helps, there were no real animals used in the "live action" Jungle Book either. So I have my doubts that Disney is using any real animals for The Lion King either.

The missus really got excited when we saw the trailer before dinner last night. She was even more delighted that James Earl Jones was gonna be in this one as well.

Should be good. Looking forward to next summer.

Wait, is there some kind of temporal play going on? This movie hasn't come out yet, but it's coming out last year?!
    ;)

The trailer did look really good, but like others I'm not sure in the "point" of watching a CGI remake of a classic cartoon, one of my favorites of the Disney animated films.

The point is to make 1+ billion dollars on the movie like Beauty and the Beast did.

They all looked CGI to me. I just can't really see them using any real animals for something like this. With something this complex it's got to be a lot to just use CGI animals that can always do exactly what you want.
I'm pretty sure they'll probably make some changes, they have in all of the other remakes. According to Wikipedia there is going to be at least one new song with Beyonce and Elton John.

The circle of life is now complete. When I left you, I was but the cartoon; now *I* am the real lion.

I was thinking that some of the "kneeling" zebras might have been real, but, if not, it's a testament to the animators, and either way it's a testament to the filmmakers.
