There's going to be a new Terminator movie and one of the titles floating around is "Terminator Phoenix" and I'm not sure if I like the idea of inserting politics about refugees and border walls into a movie like this. That's what has been floating around on different websites.

Really do they have to do that shit?

You are on a Star Trek website complaining about social commentary in a sci-fi movie? :vulcan:

But with Star Trek that's been at the core of its fabric since TOS. It's Fine for Star Trek.

The movie from what I heard about it makes it sound like crap. To many pointless youngsters in it when all we want to see is Arnold and Sarah Connor in action again. Both who are going to be in only small roles. This is going to look really bad when you compare it to the new "Halloween" movie were you got Jamie Lee Curtis being the star despite her advancing age.

As for social commentary. Not sure what the point of any of that in movie were you just want see robots fighting each other and Sarah Connor going bad ass on people and the robots. Maybe a anti-technology message but they tried to go after cell phones in the last movie and that ended up sucking as well. I mean at this point all I want out of the franchise is the above mentioned stuff with Arnold and Sarah Connor with the one exception is for someone to bring back the tv show again in some format. The 4th and 5th movie of this franchise have just been awful. Some would even say part 3 but I kind of like it.

Oh did you mean Terminator Genysis?

I'm on the outer in that I liked T3 and Terminator Salvation.

I want to see robots fighting robots.

If that's the case could someone get the rights to TSCC? That was heading into good places and got cannned.

Yep I meant Genysis. Me I wanted to like Salvation. It's set in the future were the world has fallen and it stars Christian Bale. It has everthing you think you would need to make a great action movie but it just never worked for me. TSCC is something I really want to see as well. I can even handle them recasting John Connor if they want if they get Lena Headey,Summer Glau,Shirley Manson and Garret Dillahunt back.

Speak for yourself. I wish they had left Arnold behind a long time ago.

Well if they got Robot Patrick back I could be okay with that as well. I mean those are the 3 big stars of the whole franchise and I do think this is more of a star driven franchise than a story/premise type of franchise. I think their is limited interest in the mythology of the universe beyond many hardcore fans.

Should add James Cameron, directing also to the list of the important stars. That makes the whole thing about 4 people and one character that you can recast with ease in John Connor.

TSCC gave us one idea that I really did like, factions. I liked the idea that there were different factions of terminators.

There was a faction of good terminators that wanted to help humans led by Shirley Manson's character. I just wish we had seen where that went.

In the lap of squalor I assure you.
Deciding that a failed genocide is less preferential to coexistence isn't exactly genius.

Skynet got exponentially smarter the longer it was alive.

It was dumber than a Trump when it started WWIII, so 6 hours later when it was as smart as Norman Mailer, Skynet would have double facepalmed itself over that youthful boner.

That would be interesting. A Terminator Civil War. With humans caught in the middle. What if Sarah Connor and John Connor even found themselves siding with a different faction and you had mom vs son as a major theme of the movie or tv show.

I contend Skynet wasn't intelligent but reactionary. It reacted badly to external stimulus.

    I like that idea.

Agreed. Politics should be kept out of fiction. Unless Politics is the point of the fiction of course. That stuff has its place, but it shouldn't be in EVERY DAMN THING. The problem is that movies and TV today are about "social issues" when they should be about escapism. I miss that kind of storytelling.

It should also make sense. What in the world does "Terminator" have to do with Refuges and Border Walls. If you got a message you would think it would be about the dangers of technology or this nuclear situation we have with North Korea. Or Russia being able to hack the internet and places like Facebook and thus big Corporations that allow this stuff to happen. Also is this movie at least going to be Rated R? I mean another PG-13 rating should be all you need to know beforehand that you shouldn't even bother with it.

Because movies today kind of suck sometimes and try to be social commentary. We want escapism not preaching.

Yep, same here. At least it had the guts to do something new with the franchise instead of repeating ad infinitum. I appreciated the different viewpoint the movie had.

Progress, not regress :D Haha, I swear, it seems to they keep repeating the series' iconic moments instead of forging ahead in the timeline. Kind of like a bad version of Groundhoung Day.
