Discovery Spin-Off Series in the Works?

Emperor Georgiou: The Section 31 Series? Yikes.

Characters need to have redeeming features in order to carry episodes, let alone whole series'. This one attempted genocide, killed a shitload of her own guards, suceeded in previous attempts at genocide and is a cannibal.

I know they need variety for their Trek-series-spamming to work, but... yikes.

Not really. Breaking Bad was all about a flawed man becoming a monster. It's one of the most compelling shows in TV history. Characters do not need to have any redeeming features to carry a show.

Why make a spin off of a rubbish, unpopular show? following a stupid, one dimensional character? expanding a universe that isnt prime that turns so many people off?. It proves people here will buy anything that claims to be star trek irregardless of quality, just stick "Star Trek" in the name...

Perhaps it is indicative that your opinion on the show is not universally held? I'm not really a fan of the idea of a section 31 series, but claims that Discovery is 'unpopular' are clearly belied by the fact that it has relaunched a TV franchise, and the universe it inhabits, prime or not, is the TV Trekverse for the foreseeable future.

Your idea of popular and my idea are quite different. This echo chamber forum is no indication of what the general population think of the show. CBS all access are disappointed with the show, Netflix dont want it and only desperate trekkies are sticking with it, deluding themselves that its worth their time and money....

The premise isn't something I'd really be interested in watching, but I suppose since it's TREK, I'd at least give it a gander.

I'm not interested in watching things that are gloomy, melancholy and negative, I get enough of that crap from the news and where I work, on a daily basis.
(hence I never got beyond the first couple of episodes of "Breaking Bad" and ANY 'Reality' shows.)

I only got through DISCOVERY's first season of mayhem and misery, because I hoped it would end on a brighter note. (which it did)
Season 2 so far, seems like it will be more up my alley.

There's so much Dhrama/Reality crap on TV now, I don't even bother with commercial TV anymore.
:sigh:

Failed shows get cancelled and disappear, they don't get multiple spin-offs. This is basic common sense.

Wow... you really whipped that outta yer butt, didn't ya?
I'd ask for just a tiny bit of proof to back up all those unfounded and mostly baseless claims, but I can tell that that would be pointless folly, since it would just lead to more off the cuff remarks with no actual facts put forth.

I read the title of the thread and got excited until I got to the description. I had hoped the show would be about Mirror Georgiou's life in the mirror universe from a captain to Emperor with the focus being the mirror universe as the setting...would have been nice.
Now this sounds like a much better idea i.m.o and I'm not really interested in the whole thing.

This is the second time breaking bad has come up on this message board today and I've still not actually seen any of it so forgive me if I'm wrong but didn't we at least empathise with walter as a relateable character, at least in the beginning, who got carried away. Being born in the mirror universe isn't she just going to be evil and thus hard to sympathise with? From the off she's going to be a crew eating, agony booth using killer. Now Ent did it, but they had all the evil people trying ot off each other with the logic for the viewer that they all kind of got what they deserved and they only did it for two episodes not a series where such an idea might get tiring.

When did she eat human flesh?
I think in a society where there are multiple intelligent forms of life we would for convenience extend the title to include eating other highly evolved life forms rather than just your own species.

Well ill give you ancedotal evidence. I know about 8 people who are trekkies (including myself). 5 of us hate the show and 3 like it. Even during the run of Enterprise, which wasnt that good a show, far more people enjoyed it. This show isnt on normal TV so anyone who wants to see it needs to pay and it isnt woth it. As i type this from europe, I cant watch the short treks anywhere.
Just because CBS are throwing good money after bad making new trek series using the same characters and sets doesnt make it good or popular. This gets everyone excited but when they are actually made and aired they will be as devisive as all other CBS trek shows. Are we really meant to be excited by a Star trek comedy cartoon, A discoverse Picard show that will destroy our memory of one of treks greatest characters, (which is what DSC will do to Spock), and a Section 31 show with a terrible mirror character who cant pronounce her words properly. If thats what gets you excited and opens your wallets then good for you...

I'm more interested in a Pike-series onboard the Enterprise and StarFleet Academy to be honest.

Also hoping for a series set right after Enterprise, with the birth of the Federation and a mini-series about the Romulan War.

A series set between TOS and TNG would be logical as well. We know almost nothing about that era.

Or just come up with a new word so as to avoid confusion. Until a Trek production says otherwise of their fictional future, cannibalism is still the eating of one's own species. :)

Heh ...
Perhaps it's time to pull out your old Trek DVD's and reminisce yourself outta that funk.
It's pretty obvious at this point that Star Trek is going in a whole new direction and it seems, not one you and your friends are going to care to watch.

Best sample group ever.

This board is full of star trek fans who come out their way to post about a show. Hardly a typical cross section of society. Out of my friends who are trekkies, less than half would watch it. That doesnt mean they would pay for it (they watched S1 on netflx). Now thats 8 people who are trekkies out of all the people i know, most of whom never watch star trek, maybe 1 or 2 out of 50 people would pay to watch it. Is that good?

Okay i will and it wont cost me a penny. Enjoy paying for mediocrity....

Words change, they grow, they evolve. I don't think it's a case of completely reinventing the word here just adding to it's meaning. Plus taking it as modern viewers who are using the word (or maybe the show itself communicating with modern viewers) who will never have faced such a thing in the real world where they would need to invent such a word that seems to work to get across meaning, quickly and clearly for now.

What you've got there is called "speculation" and with out any provable facts, it's nothing more.
It's interesting and relevant for your particular bevy of friends, but hardly definitive for the Trek Fandom as a whole, nor for the actual numbers of viewers CBS is getting on All Access.
