CBS is apparently working on a Star Trek: Discovery spin-off series, focusing on Michelle Yeoh's former Emperor Philippa Georgiou. From Deadline:

    Fascinating.

I thought they'd do a Pike spin-off but since Emperor Georgiou is my favorite character, I'll gladly take this instead.

I'm starting to get worried, though. This sounds vaguely familiar....like the "spin-off movie a month" rumor mill in the other big sci-fi adventure franchise.

Yeah, this would be the fourth CBS All Access series, and rumor is that a Pike series is in the works as well. Not to mention the Ceti Alpha V rumored mini-series.

True. I won't argue with that. Them being spin-off crazy, I mean. But maybe it's a limited series.

Or they're just trying to fill 52 weeks. The idea of a Section 31 series has been around since 1999/2000 when there was wild speculation about what we used to call "Series V". I never thought that would happen but it's been one of those ideas out there that have popped up over the years like Starfleet Academy and Fall of the Federation.

Having reformed villains as your main character is cool. The franchise hasn't done that before has it?

I'd prefer each new show be unrelated to the others (and run by different people) but time will tell.

How about the three criminals in Voyager's main cast?

Nope. This would be the first time. The closest we got was Lorca who was a villain posing as an anti-hero.

I never viewed the Maquis as "evil" so much as not agreeing with the Federation's treaty with the Cardassians and not willing to just do nothing while the Cardassians mistreated them as the Federation turned a blind eye. They had good intentions and saw themselves as heroes. Paris, though, just did something really stupid.

So I see them as being different from Georgiou.

That's why I said criminals, not evil. :)

    I prefer my protagonists genocidal.

I wouldn't consider them reformed villains either. Like was originally asked. :p

Starfleet might but they don't always know what's right. Even though they like to pretend to.

I would very much like to see this show. I know everyone is thinking, evil James Bond here with the Section 31 angle but is it wrong to think "Guardians of the Galaxy?" A bunch of colorful misfits that become a family and help people but also do a little crime. Kind of "Firefly" as well when you think about it. Hell why not add Mudd to the show as well and make them partners. Who wouldn't love to see those two team up? Maybe a Kelpian is part of the team and is always worried about Georgiou, eating him/her? Which ironically also connects to "Guardians of the Galaxy."

I read the title of the thread and got excited until I got to the description. I had hoped the show would be about Mirror Georgiou's life in the mirror universe from a captain to Emperor with the focus being the mirror universe as the setting...would have been nice.

I suppose if they were to do that then there would be little point in doing the Khan prequel. Minus the alternate universe, it would be two shows about evil genocidal maniacs.

That could be part of any potential flashback episodes?
