I don't know why the introductions to each of these videos is choppy, but they're fine after the intro.

    Pre 37 Saucer Texture References

Basically, we create assets to help us with texturing.

    37 Saucer Texture 01

We add it all together in GIMP and then apply the texture to our model.

Well, I'm getting there. My next tutorial should be on a lot of the textures.

@scifieric, the Enterprise looks beautiful. The nacelle weathering ring at the midpoint seems to standout. Is that deliberate?

Great work! Eric, have you ever modeled a Botany Bay, so your Enterprise will have something to fly alongside? I ask, because I've modeled one, but the part of the nose that transitions from the rounded smooth part to the octagonal hull behind it is proving quite vexing to me.

Yeah, but I'm not done. I got tired and went and took a nap. So, not done yet!
    Actually, I have!

I modeled the nose first, then I subtract away the flat sides to make the strange shape.

Hmm, I'm going to have to think about that...:)

    Eric,

I took your post about how you managed to model the Botany Bay nose as instructive, and have been rethinking how to solve that problem. I added edge loops to help model the sharpened pencil transition effect, but am having some problems that are visible here: https://www.deviantart.com/irishman20/art/Botany-Bay15-771643961?ga_submit_new=10:1541615604

I also P separated the flat plane (so that I could control where the smooth shading occurred), and smooth-shaded the rest of the nose cone. There are artifacts where I added the loop cuts, and I'm unsure if I'm on the right track or not.

Tell you what, I don't think that my way is the "right" way, but I can make a quick tutorial that shows how I make this shape. I don't know if it will help, but I think I have done something similar in TrueSpace, Blender, and Lightwave.

It's a little late tonight, I'll put together a quick video on how to make the shape as soon as I can and post the link here.

Eric, once again, you have come through in the clutch, and once again, I was making this far harder than it needed to be! :)

I recall that I was struggling with the nose cone, and waited to do that part last. I remember that a lot of the people I asked for insights back then were very adamantly steering me away from using the boolean modifier, so, as a noob, I deferred to their judgment.

Thanks for helping me not prejudge the tools within Blender!

    Hello Brian!

If I can help, it is entirely my pleasure. Tools are tools. I know that there are a lot of people out there who won't use a Boolean tool. That's silly. If it helps you get the job done, use the appropriate tool. If you want to retopo afterwards, then go ahead!

    Thank you and enjoy!

Thank you , Eric. I will be referring back to your tutorial series for help in Blender for years to come (you know, because you and I model the same kinds of objects), and I hope that you're able to maintain them on YouTube in perpetuity! :)

Also, I don't think it's an accident that your wrap-up video that finishes it all up, giving us the meaning of, oh, you know, "life, the universe, and everything", is #42! :)

Thank you, that's very generous of you!

And as for 42, your observation actually had me howling with laughter! I hadn't picked up on that! Bravo!
