So I rewatched it last week, and came to the conclusion that one of the best things about this show was that the new characters worked so well with the original characters. This is still Johnny's and Daniel's story, but the younger characters were brilliantly cast--except for Daniel's son. He kind of sucks. It's unbelievable that this kid could be the spawn of Daniel and his wife.
Children are a genetic lottery. Nurture plays a role, but sometimes you just end up with an Einstein or a Hitler regardless of parenting. Plenty of nice parents end up with jerk children and vice versa.
I saw the first two episodes last night and really enjoyed it, but I am not going to pay to see this series.
First month of YouTube Red is free. I watched the whole series without paying a dime. It's good stuff. They've done a wonderful job with characterization, both the original characters and the new. And the acting -- I had no idea Billy Zabka could be so good!
Yeah. Unlike CB$ All Acce$$, you don't have to pay to watch the whole show. It's totally worth it for the free trial.
Really love this show. Hitting me right in the nostalgia feels, but also actually bringing it as a good show. Zabka is fantastic too. Big fan.
They must've changed it then, because at the time I had the trial, it was only a week or two, while they released episodes of Discovery weekly...meaning you couldn't watch the whole show. YouTube released Cobra Kai all at once, so you could binge the whole thing within the trial period. Not that I care much. I gave up on Discovery after I couldn't take it's crappiness any longer, so CBS All Access only got a little of my money.
Just read today that Youtube is going to ditch the subscriptions and allow people to watch their shows (Cobra Kai included) for free with ads. I didn't pony up for the subscription, so this is good news for me!
You could have just waited for all of season 1 to come out and then paid and watched it all in a week. Or do what I did and see that it was shit that made Voyager look good halfway through the pilot when it aired on CBS.
I actually see this as a thing to come for all the streaming channels popping up over the next few years (since there's just not sustainability for all of them). Something like: ~$10 no commercials, ~$5 a few commercials, $0 about the same amount of commercials on broadcast.
Yep and that's the thing, people are leaving cable due to oversaturation of commercials. They crossed the line with it.
People are leaving cable because it cost $100+ a month and people only watch 3-4 shows. I have never heard anyone go 'I'm not watching TV because there are too many commercials'.
Yet is is still part of the argument, at least for me. The amount of ads is ridiculous.. a while ago i was zapping through free TV in Germany and a major blockbuster came on at primetime.. 5 minutes in they aired the first ad block barely after the intro was done, it was ridiculous. I have a internet TV and phone package with an additional movie package added (i get my TV signal through the internet) and they unlocked Oay TV stations are movies and shows uninterrupted, they only have self promotion ads in between movies/shows and that's it. I can't go back to free TV anymore but in the age of Netflix and Amazon Prime i'm even considering cancelling my TV package completely. Streaming Services are the future of media entertainment, people are willing to pay a moderate/small fee to get access (here it's about 10 Euro a month for Netflix and there is so much content that you can't watch it all) whenever they have time and not when the provider says you have to watch (or go through the "hassle" of recording it). So anyway.. very excited about season 2. I had many concerns when S1 was announced because rebooting/continuing cult classics almost always fails but they pulled it off and made quite a watchable first season.
I agree with you that commercials are insane, however I don't agree large amounts of people ditch TV for Streaming because of it. If you are in Germany didn't Netflix have Discovery? You get a free month. In the USA the number one show is probably Walking Dead. It's ratings haven't fallen because the commercials are insanely long, it's because peopel finally realized that the show is a mess.
Any TV station rises of fall by the quality of their programming.. good marketing only goes so far but when word of mouth spreads it can break a show even if it's promoted above and beyond. Netflix has a very good roll.. they constantly produce interesting TV shows, they're getting classic TV shows in their programming and are now starting to produce movies (and some of them are quote good proving you don't need to sink 250 million+ to entertain people for 2 hours). I don't think it's the ads themselves but people nowadays have far more options to be entertained and they have gotten used to a freedom of choice. It started with VCR recorders, got digital with Tivo and later on harddrive recorders and is currently now in the stream on demand stage where people choose when and where to watch anything and are not bound by location and schedule. That genie is now out of the bottle and i believe the time is already running out on old school TV stations.. give it another 10-20 years and TV stations will be in serious trouble if they don't adapt.
