Star Trek Short Treks "Calypso" Promo

I'ma go out on a limb here and say - this is not really taking place 1000 years in the future on board of the Discovery. Like, either of these two location statements is a straight up lie, probably even both of them, and I guess by the artifical interface that's actually testing the poor dude.

I'm intrigued.

GLADOS invaded Starfleet. Is doing good science :)

Seriously this would be a cool movie idea pity it's only a short film

My guess is that the 'Calypso' of the title refers to the greek myth in which Calypso, whose name literally means
'to deceive' detains Odysseus for seven years in hopes of making him her husband. Sounds like an allusion to talosian illusions to me.

This was already the most interesting short Trek, but now even more so. Also this was the only one that didn't seem related to Discovery, but now there is a very interesting connection.

Details...
Well if the guy in the trailer had been in cryo sleep for 3 million years because a damaged engine plate caused a radiation leak that killed the crew, that would explain why everyone’s dead...

This is what happens when you let the engineer in charge of the chicken soup dispenser repair the engines. And when you serve gazpacho at the captain’s table...

First reaction: excited...
... then I suddenly realize I live in Europe and can't watch. Come on Netflix! How much can CBS really charge you for 4 Short Treks for a total of 60 minutes? It can't be thát expensive...

Single-source watching just doesn't happen. Something like The Expanse gets two seasons on Netflix and then simply ceases to be. Presumably there's money to be made in distributing the "broadcasting" to a number of players; I wouldn't wonder all that much if Season 8 of Game of Thrones failed to get Netflix distribution, too. Alas.

Oh, well. I made do in the years before internet TV, "enjoying" VOY or ENT through whatever was seeping through the cracks. Sometimes it was just transcripts... Sometimes entire episodes on YouTube, sometimes snippets. I don't think I'll be sufficiently bothered to get full streaming from shady sources this time around, either.

This is my assumption as well when I think more about it. He's being tested and controlled. It's very possible he's not in either location in the end. You know what I'm going to join the others with this. They said we'd see Talosians. They never said in what context and people assumed it would be in regard to Pike and only in regard to Pike.

It's not about what Netflix wants. If CBS doesn't want Netflix International to have these shorts for....reasons, there's nothi g Netflix can do about.
