First of all, thanks to those who expressed their concern. I'm out of the hospital and doing fine. I now have a brand-new aortic valve.

So, the topic of this contest is animals that have played a starring or featured role in movies and television. Heroic animals, cute animals, funny animals. Let's restrict the entries to real, live animals -- no animation, costumed performers, puppetry or CGI. I'll allow entries from SF and fantasy -- including animal characters with fantasy attributes (e.g., animals that talk or have human-like personalities) as long as they're portrayed onscreen by living, breathing creatures.

The usual restrictions: maximum image size 200 x 200 pixels, maximum file size 1 MB.

So, to kick off the contest, here's my entry: America's favorite talking horse, Mister Ed.

EDIT: Somehow the thread title ended up as "Misc Av Contest" instead of "TV and Media Av Contest." Can a mod fix that?

@Printer's Devil : Bring up the thread, you will see the the edit option, and there will an "edit thread title" link in small print near the top. You can easily fix it there.

Glad you are home and feeling better.

Found it -- but it's not under the "Edit" options, it's under "Thread Tools!"

Grizzly Adams & Ben, from The Adventures Of Grizzly Adams. Probably before your time ;)

The human is kinda necessary in this case.

Oh, it was well within my time. I just never watched that show.

Hell, I remember Mister Ed and that was fifteen years earlier!

Grizzly Adams was a nice, fun type of show. The likes of which hasn't been made in a long time.

^ Hey, I'm 34, and my first idea (now going to be presented among my alternatives) was from the 1950s. You can still enjoy stuff that's way older than yourself. Plus, Flipper's iconic. Everybody knows Flipper.

Had to Google that one. I'll assume the cat plays a prominently featured role. Maybe he even has the best lines!

Well, the cat has actually no lines, but the whole movie revolves around him. He's got the titular role, so, yeah, prominently featured.

Great entries so far, people. There are still plenty of classic animal stars left!

    Suggestions:
Toto from The Wizard of Oz
Mona the monkey from Robinson Crusoe on Mars
Esmeralda the sea lion from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Gertrude the duck from Journey to the Center of the Earth
Petey the pup from the Our Gang comedies (aka Little Rascals)
. . . and, of course, a collie who needs no introduction! (Did you ever see one go this way and that? ;))

I was considering Lassie. There's also B.J. And The Bear (chimp), Spot from ST:TNG, that huge St. Bernard from Beethoven, Babe the pig not to mention Cujo and Old Yeller.

Are you implying that you've never heard of Flipper? And thus revealing a gap in your knowledge of popular culture? Because, if you are, the rules of the internet demand that you be mocked mercilessly.

Oh, the gaps in my knowledge of popular culture are probably large enough to fly an Enterprise or three through. But feel free to mock away. :)

But seriously, of course I know who Flipper is. It's that dolphin from that show, who enjoys jumping over people's legs.
