This was Devin Faraci's speculation though, if I remember who started to spread the plot. Orci said it was a temptation but apparently no time travel or restoring would really happen (again, he's a bit wishy washy but I remember he got defensive when they accused him of lying because he had previously stated there would be no restoring..and then it seemed his third movie was like that. He insisted that his movie didn't really do that)

Sure, if he truly planned to end the trilogy like that, one more reason why paramount would be like 'are you out of your fanboy mind?!'
They have their own timeline to play with and they destroy it? Preventing more movies (more anything) to get made with this version of the characters. The reboot fans and critics would get pissed off and question why create the reality in the first place. Anything that happened in the other movies would be pointless and without meaning.

Confirmed the dilemma, not its resolution as you are reporting it in your summary of his story.
His comments don't say that they'd merge with the tos timeline and end the trilogy like that. He really didn't say that. Just that there is a temptation and prime Kirk, that they probably meet using the time travel device, helps them resolve the dilemma.. how prime kirk would help them is up to speculation and it works both ways as he might as well mean he helps them understand that they shouldn't mess with time travel, and thus respect the reality they are in and its events, the death of their parents included. He'd talk from personal experience too...

Eta: here's Orci's denial when Faraci was spreading the rumors about the story you summarized (them restoring the timeline ):

no time travel was ever considered, fyi

Begs the question how they'd bring prime kirk back.

complicated!! merging the timelines how is that possible? it would have been weird rebooting only to cancel the whole thing out 2 movies later.

The artifact everyone is after could have unlimited godlike powers, resurrecting Kirk Prime for Old Spock, or potentiality restoring Vulcan and it's 6 billion inhabitants. Thus, no actual time travel.

I don't know if ive seen the Orci movie in an alternate reality dream or something but for some reason im picturing Kirk (Pine) looking through some kind of magic telescopic contraption into the Prime universe and seeing TOS crew on the bridge (CG augmented footage from some random TOS ep) as his figure hovers over a button to restore the timeline..(something like the end of Interstellar in the blackhole)

they canned Orcis ST3 because they didn't like it thought it was too 'Star Trekkie' and wanted Star Guardians instead.. so pegg quicky came up with something and they quickly grabbed Lin as F&F so hot right then , and put out that Trek and The Furious trailer in the hopes that F7s crazy 1.5b would rub off

picturing the climax of the movie. Kirk and Spock on a rocky mountainous planet with lead villain about to shoot them, suddenly Captain Shatner rides in to save the day on a galactic space horse and boots the villain into the lake of devils hundreds of feet below as Pine and Quinto look on in awe. all to the score of Goldsmiths main theme

Thought this was trek, not star wars ^

Beyond feels very treky in the sense of being very nostalgia tos fanboy safe. So I don't know if I truly get what was paramount's problem because in either case, they got a movie more for old fans than the general audience they wanted to attract.

My concern is that paramount&Co don't even have some sort of plan and know what they want their thing to be, and it shows.
Anyway, we will never know if we got the better of two evils or.. not.

Gotg has a good ensemble and humor, and until the director got fired for different reasons, fans were blessed having the same guy as the creative team and thus him having a plan. Even with Infinity War, he wrote the scenes for his characters. He knew where he wanted to take them and he knew what purpose his trilogy wanted to have. You can like or dislike his movies, but they are his story from start to end.
But then again, Gunn had a freedom with gotg and its characters that the guys who wrote for the reboot after the first movie don't have, apparently. Whether it's their fault too or a choice, it still a big limit and too many implicit 'you can't' to work around.

Maybe I'm too harsh but, honestly, how can Paramount&Co understand why people like other movies, when they don't even seem to understand why people liked their star trek 2009?

    Nailed it ^

Related to the Kelvinverse or not I wonder if it would be worth getting a Shatner Lookalike [Generations-now] to do a 'return of Kirk' fan film? It could work within the guidelines

Jesus Christ I forgot how much Orci loved to include his esoteric bullshit into Trek... "Planet Nibiru" anyone...?
That and his truther bullshit, I'm just so glad he's finally gone for good from the franchise.

Also, I'm pretty sure his movie wouldn't have ended with the re-alignment of the franchises. "Temptation" anyone? I guess that would have been a possibility in the end - for the main characters to make all their losses (Kirks father, Spocks planet) gone, but that in the end they chose to continue their own life, and leave the timelines seperated (with a big aknowledgement the original one still eists out there somewhere). In the end, Discovery made this whole point moot anyway...

I guess to non Trek fan cinemagoers who saw ST09/ID but didn't read TM.com/IDW Countdown etc the notion that the original timeline would be still there wouldn't be a consideration (just like it wouldn't be with other timetravel movies BTTF, Trek IV etc) so Orcis movie would've been a way to address that in more detail..but yeh theres no way theyd have corrected the timeline Yesterday Enterprise style. itd just been the temptation to do it.. (maybe Shatners Kirk would've 'died' again in sacrifice at the conclusion i.e. fading away in some poignant scene with Pine)

I wouldn't actually put it beneath Orci to actually completely destroy the prime-timeline as a result of his movie.
He was really angry with fans at the time, and making his version the only "true" one that sticks really would have been a statement...

Why am I imagining some crazy person laughing hysterically and shouting "If I can't have Trek, no one will!" ?

That Vulcan ship looks like it's designed to literally screw the space-time continuum.
