I bet people aren't watching because they know RIck is leaving. I think AMC underestimates just how popular he is as a character. My ex-brother in law loved RIck as a character. I bet some people think he has already left the show. They heard the news and assumed he wasn't going to be in any more new episodes.

As for the latest ep I thought it was another good one. I think the helicopter is part of a group that still relies heavy on tech. Which makes sense that with the hero's going more old fashioned this year that your enemy might be the complete opposite of that. Maybe they control a old military base or something. Which of course was done on the show "Jeremiah" but I am guessing many people don't recall that show.

Something I also wonder is will we see the result of what is going on in "Fear of the Walking Dead" on the show. Are they still out their droping supplies off on the side of roads.

I think the long term plan might still be to combine the shows. Fear was on a serious ratings slide and AMC probably sent Morgan over to start the combining process, just in case Fear stops being viable. Of course, we now have the same kind of slide on the main show... Though they'd still have to lose another 75% before cancelation becomes a real concern.

It's been stated from various Entertainment sources the AMC plans more spinoffs (although given the dumpster fire that FTWD became I can't see why); but who knows. maybe after the character of Rick is gone and the rating plunge (assuming they do, which I think is likely); AMC management will have their wake up call.

IMO - Killing Carl was the big mistake. An interesting storyline could have been made with Carl having to carry on Rick's leadership role (and I've never read the comics, but I have heard Carl is still alive and a good character in them).

But yeah, at this point, it appears AMC is going to ride their WD franchise all the way down to oblivion. (Pun intended.)

I’d really like it if at least one of Rick/Maggie actually got out of TWD alive, and that’s the obvious way to do that with her.

I've read a couple articles where they talk about Maggie coming back, and I can't find it now, but I read another that said the same thing about Rick, so it sounds to me like there's a pretty good chance both of neither of them will actually die.

IIRC, it's basically been confirmed that Rick is going to be killed off, although Maggie's departure is said to leave the door open for a future return.

Besides, IMO Rick isn't the kind of character you can write off and bring back under these circumstances. If he does, does that mean Andrew Lincoln reclaims his spot as series lead? And if he does, he'd be in a position request he be paid either equal to or higher than the twenty million Norman Reedus will be pulling in once he takes over as the lead.

The Talking Dead preview special done in the summer made it pretty clear he's being killed off, and that was with the new showrunner present. As a rule, I don't consider anything revealed by a showrunner a spoiler. What I posted about Maggie is more a rumour than anything else, so treat it as such.

The second paragraph was just speculation and opinion, with the only actual fact there being the bit about Norman Reedus's paycheck. Which
1) Is very public knowledge at this point.
2) Doesn't give anything away about the plot.

With Maggie it's possible they already played their hand about her fate. In the last episode weren't they talking about her visiting that group from last year that came by and asked for their old records? I think Maggie might go join them at the end of the season or mid-season.

OK, I didn't realize they'd been that clear about what'll happen to Rick, although that doesn't rule out one off dreams/flashbacks/hallucinations. Either way, even if he isn't going in front of the camera, he might be back behind it. I can't remember if it's a definite thing yet, but there is at least a possibility Andrew Lincoln will be directing at least one episode next season.

Yes, it was a mistake. Aside from the behind the scenes issues that may have caused the character's death (Gimple allegedly promising to renew Riggs' contract, etc.), the showrunners also believed they were subverting fans' longtime belief that Carl would become a leader. In fact, in the episode when he's bitten, Michonne tells him that he is the leader of Alexandria until the other return, so again, that was playing into fans believing he was on the fasttrack to leader status, only for...you know the rest. The series is nearly a decade old, so contrary to the business interests of AMC. Kirkman and others, a natural series conclusion should be considered, but with all of the talk of more spin-offs, I do not see that happening.

You know I was thinking of another fate for Maggie in regards to those spin-offs. Maybe she will be the series lead in another show. One thing I have heard is the idea of showing what happened in other countries. You could have Maggie in England and do a show about that. I kind of forgot that the actress is also British.

Yes, I did pick up on that and had similar thoughts.

I can't remember if it's a definite thing yet, but there is at least a possibility Andrew Lincoln will be directing at least one episode next season.

I believe that is official as well, though I can't remember the source for it.

Given the amount of Flashback sequences they always do - a guest appearance is still an option, regardless.

The issue with RIck I think isn't so much that it wouldn't be a great idea but maybe the actor is ready to move on from the character and grow as a actor. He has been RIck for so long that it now feels weird seeing him something like "Love Actually."
