Looks like we're never getting a DS9 HD remaster. (Quote from twitter)

But it really isn't. Which is why DVD is still in play.

There's simply no content providers wanting DS9/VOY in HD, currently. I guess it could change? Though I think it becomes increasingly less likely the further we move away from those shows.

I don't agree. SyFy HD in the UK have currently got, and have had, TNG remastered on rinse and repeat since the Blu-rays went on sale. 2 episodes a night at primetime weeknights. I'm sure SyFy realises even the most die hard fans are thoroughly sick of it by now, but SyFy can't put poor SD upscaled on at 6pm-8pm weeknights on an HD channel. People will switch it off. I'm sure SyFy would love to have DS9/Voyager in HD.

DS9 and VOY will still look good when you're streaming them on your phone display.

That being said: Yeah, I wouldn't trust the word "ever" in there. The more technology progresses, the easier it will become to up-convert old footage digitally. What we will actually never get is the same ludicrous fantastic treatment TNG got: Where every single vfx was completely re-created from it's original Masters. So the remastered TNG will always look better and more crisp than any remaster of DS9 or VOY, which - if they happen one day - will probably "only" be a digital polish of the final footage. I can live with that. And I think it's almost assured we will get some at least slightly upgraded versions of DS9 and VOY at some point in the future.

Yeah, my DS9/VOY Dvds are borderline unwatchable on my 50" tv too .... but the "Tribblies and Tribbliations" upgrade for the second season of TOS BR looks ok to me .

That is the proof that it can be done.

I hope some time, on the near future, we get an refreshing upgrade to that material.
DS9 and VOY deserves to be remembered and celebrated in a greater way than we have.

I'd love to see DS9 get a nice quality upgrade. No new f/x or anything, but just re-mastered for high-def like TNG. It's a beautifully shot series with great, detailed sets etc. It would really be worthwhile.

It's too bad that CBS doesn't put some dough into this...even if we know it would need to be somewhat outrageously priced. The big fans of the show would buy it.

Having just seen the documentary premiere in NYC...it would be so cool if it happened...and I wish I thought it was more likely.

Just going to put this out there. Peter Jacksons' digital company managed to digitally remaster footage from the first world war into HD, 3d and color. And it's pretty convincing. The biggest tells are in the motion, because the original footage wasn't shot at 24 frames per second, thus there are computer generated intermediate shots sometimes. Television shows don't have that problem.

This technology is probably going to become a lot cheaper in the coming decade(s), so I guess probably as soon as the successor of the blu-ray will be widespread, companies are going to digitally polish their old shows as well. And Star Trek is probably top of the list to get that treatment as soon as it becomes feasable.

Lots of studios no longer put TV shows on Blu-ray. I don't see it changing with the next wave. There are a few 4K releases, but not many.

That's true but not every show is a "Star Trek" show. Being part of a franchise should give it some extra help in the future simply because people are still going to care about them. Unlike something such as a "Charles in Charge" or "Becker" or any of the old shows people no longer talk about or care about, anymore.

While I would love to see an HD version of DS9, I watched TNG on a 12" black and white television, and then later on a 13" color TV that had awful reception, but I was there faithfully each week. I can live with what we have.

That's what people have been saying all along. Though it has yet to happen. "Star Trek" is only important if people are willing to pay for it. TNG had lackluster sales.

Really? I was watching an old BUCK ROGERS ep the other night and the image seemed perfectly clear. It wasn't fuzzy or muddy or anything. Ditto for the old 1940s horror movie I watched the night before. The image was clear and watchable on my big modern TV. It wasn't blurry or out of focus.

This isn't about "updating" the show. It's about simply making it watchable on current devices instead of looking like a fuzzy, puke-y, muddy mess.

It doesn't look muddy. Maybe I'm just used to SD/DVD quality, but it looks fine, even on my 40" 1080p HDTV.

It's not the resolution; it's the videotape mastering for NTSC television. The colors in VOY and DS9 look lousy.
