Through the 4 TNG movies I kinda saw an arc for Picard. I know the movies weren't related thematically... but in Generations he deals with the loss of his nephew and the potential end of his bloodline. In First Contact he faces the demons of his loss of humanity to the Borg. In Insurrection he finds love and a new love of life which he gives up for greater principles and in Nemesis he essentially meets his son in Shinzon who he loses.

I felt very sorry for Picard by the end of the Star Trek movies. Whereas in "All Good Things..." I was hopeful for him, feeling as though he'd continue his adventures and have weekly poker games with his tight-knit onboard family. After Nemesis his future was very uncertain. His family had been broken apart. As things stand now, I could actually see him being a bitter old man.

More than anything else for this new series I want to see Picard find happiness with a family. Whether he has children of his own with Crusher or whoever--or if he is a mentor of students at Starfleet Academy. The destruction of Romulus would be a great launching point for the story sure--it's the last thing we saw happen in the prime timeline. But by the end of it, I definitely want to see Picard have the Christmas at home that he envisioned.

I feel comfortable knowing Riker and Troi moved on to the Titan and probably started a family (never read the books). I'd like to see Riker finally get command of the Big E. I've wanted that since Best of Both Worlds. I'd be disappointed if it didn't happen. He's probably an admiral or retired by now anyway, but it would be nice as a throwaway line. "Command of the Enterprise 2396-2400"

Data's death was cheapened by the existence of B4. I'm sure 20 years on B4 is basically Data... which was always gonna be the case.

Worf had a good arc in DS9 so there's not much unresolved. It'd be nice to catch up. I'd also like to know what LaForge and Wesley are up to these days...

I'd rather Picard moved forward to new friends and adventures, instead of "getting the band back together."

Not what this is about I know, but it's what came to mind when I read the thread title.

An orchestral version of Jay Chattaway's "The Inner Light" theme for the titles please...

with a just hint of Alexander Courage creeping in at the end.

I mixed together something like that for a 40th Anniversary tribute video years ago.

Same here. I like "the band" as well, but reunions and follow-ups always have the audiences expecting what is known as "closed universe trope". It would be refreshingly original. Doesn't mean the rest of the crew never comes back and there's no reason they can't. Especially if it's a TV show where there will be more episodes and time to properly do such a character juggling act.

I agree that new characters should enter his life, and this show would be a perfect launchpad for introducing characters for the next spinoff.

Still, if the show's entire run is say 15 episode, it might be nice to devote 2-3 to a TNG Reunion.

I really hope he's not still a starship captain or worse, an admiral.

I hope it starts with some sort of story where he's in civilian life.

    I'm guessing he dies.

There are some possibilities outlined by this poster, from a Starfleet Ambassador, an archeologist, or a recluse working attending his family vineyeard after losing everyone he loves.

Do you agree with these possibilities or do you have your own ideas?

    Junior Astrophysics officer.

In seriousness, either Ambassador Picard or Archaeologist Picard travels the galaxy in search of adventure, struggling with life since he's a changed, changed man.

That's Picard's persona in the AU created by Q in "Tapestry," correct?
Well, since some folks thought the Prime Universe dies at the end of "Enterprise" in 2005 and DISCO is not considered based in the Prime because of its edgy set-up, this might not be a bad idea ;);)

Picard is a broken old man who has lost all faith and fallen to depression and drink. His only hope is a mysterious young woman who....

Another vote for a retired Picard (either from Starfleet or from an Ambassador position) who is teaching (NOT Starfleet Academy) or working as an archaeologist. He's living a quiet life, when suddenly he gets a message from an old friend (Riker?) "Jean-Luc, the Federation is in danger, and we need your help..."

Ro Laren?? But she would've been in her 40s by this time, assuming she survived the Maquis massacre orchestrated by the Cardassians.

    I voted for "other."

A Picard who retired from Starfleet and has joined the crew of an experimental civilian archaeological vessel. Although he isn't the captain, his decades of Starfleet experience makes him an invaluable resource when the ship inevitably encounters the unknown and occasionally the hostile. Although he didn't set out to do so, Picard finds himself mentoring a new generation of explorers, adventurers, and heroes.

I like this. And the new adventures and mentoring serve as a catharsis for his cynicism, taking him back to his optimistic roots.

I chose Ambassador/Romulus, that makes sense to me... but I would bet serious money there will be a theme going through this that is "Picard dealing with once being a Borg". They would be stupid not to tap into Best Of Both Worlds/Family, I,Borg.
