Spoilers Season 2 Trailer

Not at my high school, they didn't. Still have flashbacks from the epic meltdown of Grade 12 English in 1985.
We bullied our fifth grade English teacher into crying. He didn't want to teach us for another year. The others were regular rescheduling/reassigning changes though.

I don't remember Sarek saying that he personally was involved in the decision to fire first with the Klingons.
He was basically asked what his race did to earn the Klingons respect and answered by saying that they tried other things, but found that Shooting First was the only one that worked.

At this time in history, the Klingons do not have someone leading them that believes in getting along and Praxis is a whole bunch of years in the future.
They are the type of bully that only responds to a bloody nose.

While I found the whole "planetary bomb" thing a bit more than over the top and exceptionally amoral, it was the best way to at least bring the hostilities to a standstill immediately.
Thus probably saving billions of people within the Federation.

At this point Klingons really LIKE being extremely aggressive, on a scale we've never seen before.
(even toward their own)
Once they get their blood boiling and get a scent, there's no stopping them.

It had to be either a threat of Total Annihilation of their Home World, or Complete Capitulation by the Federation.
(the latter most likely NOT ending the bloodshed)

It ain't pretty, but just like Truman using the Atomic Bomb on Japan (Twice}, it was necessary for the greater good.

Now however someone is defending real war crimes. It was not necessary at all, Japan was already seeking a way to surrender and Truman knew it. All he would have needed to do was to promise that the Emperor would not be touched. And of course if they wanted to demonstrated the power of the bomb, they could have just levelled some uninhabited Japanese forest or something, but that would have not achieved their real target, testing their new doomsday weapon against real humans.

I did nothing of the sort.

Yeah you did. At no point did i say I agreed with what Sarek did, I only gave my rationale for why he may have done it and that in light of that I didn't see it as character assassination. That's it. That is a far cry from condoning his actions. You chose to see that as some sort of defense of attempted fictional genocide or whatever and get your sphincter in a knot over it.

Just out of curiosity, what part of the Season 2 trailer featured either the atomic bombs being dropped on Japan or Sarek plotting genocide (rhetorical question)? Can we get back to the discussion of the content of the actual trailer, which I believe cultcross/Project Fear already asked for in this thread? We'd rather not have to close down a discussion about something important like the S2 trailer because arguments are getting out of hand. Back on topic, please.

So, why isn't Linus in this trailer? I was hoping a bit that he would be upgraded to "Detmer status" of importance, but since he isn't in this trailer that may not be happening.

I did not imply anything about your morals. This is solely about what sort of main characters we want to see in Star Trek, what sort of stories it should tell and what sort of message it should send. And personally I've done that discussion to death over Archer, Sisko, Section 31 and Lorca and I've found that in those discussions there rarely is agreement to be found, so I don't want to engage in it here again, especially as noted, it it out of topic.I am sure we get to do it ad nauseam over the Section 31 plot elements in the coming season though.

Fifth grade? Wow. You guys were tough (or the teacher wasn’t).

I might have had a hand in the epic meltdown in 1985  (technically, he didn’t quit for good but he did have a sudden “vacation” in the month of April—a bit unusual for a cassock wearing religious brother trained by Jesuits).

We were awful. We also broke a door and bullied someone until she changed schools.* The English teacher thing bit us in the butt later on because our fifth grade English teacher was really chill and we'd probably have gotten him in eight grade Spanish. Unsurprisingly he didn't want to teach us, so we got a much more unpleasant eight grade Spanish teacher.

*By we I mean our class, I'm way to passive to do any of those things.

I used to be a substitute teacher, so I've seen the other side of the desk to an extent. Mainly high school, sometimes elementary school and once I did middle school. High School was okay. Elementary School, the kids are a lot to keep up with but they're okay for the most part. I have massive respect for anyone who teaches elementary school as their regular job.

Middle School: that's something else. The middle grades are insane. I did that once, and never again. Just trying to see whatever they can get away with. And if they see any weakness, they'll be all over it.

"Children assimilated by the Borg are placed in maturation chambers for seventeen cycles."

I hated middle school. All the kids who had been nice and chill in elementary school suddenly treated me like an outcast nerd for no reason. Excuuuse me for liking sci-fi and not being able to afford all the designer jeans and sneakers that everybody else had.

Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled Star Trek: Discovery discussion.
