The spore drive doesn't violate continuity

The federation is nearly conquered at the same level as TNG "Yesterday Enterprise". Then some how Discovery connects to TOS, TNG, DS9, and Voyager without a mention of those events?

Neither does this.

You know why? Because it was never established that the federation didn't develop a spore hub drive and it was never fully established how bad the conflict with the klingons got pre-tos. Just because no one has mentioned the spore drive or the near disastrous outcome of the klingon war doesn't mean they didn't exist.

People need to stop confusing 'continuity violations' with 'things they don't like'

As for the spore drive: I'm getting the distinct impression that 1) the reason we never see it again will be more than just "classified", and 2) Ripper will be involved.

Until we see the spore drive in active use again, one could extrapolate that Starfleet was unsuccessful at this and thus did not pursue the technology further. But, I doubt that would be a good enough explanation for our friend here.

I love the concept...but honestly even the scope of the Romulan War is a bit of an unknown.

That said, I know what you're going for here, and I think it's sound. This was a messy, short-term conflict...not a full-blown "World War."

Actually, yes, he was implying exactly that. Because the concept of Earth "seeing" a war like that, makes no sense otherwise. If the war - any war - never reached Earth, then by definition, Earth did not see it!

You pretty much have to give the benefit of the doubt and latch onto every generous or exaggerated dialogue, assume it's all true. Then you can say "yay!! no canon violations". Except the story isn't realistic to any serious viewer anymore.

Seen in the federation news service. Like saying "United States hasn't seen a war like this since Iraq". Doesn't mean that the Iraq war made it to the shores of the United States.

Or you can latch on to any throw-away line from scripts 20-50 years ago that support your own position, and assume those are true instead. Then you can say "booo!! Terrible canon violations" Except that kind of thing doesn't matter to any serious viewer.

But was also talking about war which one would expect to be mostly in space throughout the federation where people would not be able to see with the naked eye without a news feed. So it makes more sense he was talking about see as in what people would see on the news and its affect on the citizens from casualities.
