Spoilers Season 2 Trailer

Not at all. There's plenty of room for new infoinfo, just not continuity-shattering things like instant jump drive.

The spore drive doesn't violate continuity

The federation is nearly conquered at the same level as TNG "Yesterday Enterprise". Then some how Discovery connects to TOS, TNG, DS9, and Voyager without a mention of those events?

Neither does this.

You know why? Because it was never established that the federation didn't develop a spore hub drive and it was never fully established how bad the conflict with the klingons got pre-tos. Just because no one has mentioned the spore drive or the near disastrous outcome of the klingon war doesn't mean they didn't exist.

People need to stop confusing 'continuity violations' with 'things they don't like'

DS9 "Paradise Lost"

tl;dr

The DSC Klingon war never reached Earth itself. The Klingons may have gotten close to Earth, but they never had boots on the ground.

As for the spore drive: I'm getting the distinct impression that 1) the reason we never see it again will be more than just "classified", and 2) Ripper will be involved.

And not for nothing, but, where we last left off with the spore drive in Will You Take My Hand?

From MEMORY ALPHA: "Stamets tells Burnham and Tilly that Starfleet wants to find a non-Human interface with the spore drive and as such it will not be used."

Until we see the spore drive in active use again, one could extrapolate that Starfleet was unsuccessful at this and thus did not pursue the technology further. But, I doubt that would be a good enough explanation for our friend here.

And no one else did either? The Dominion and the Borg were stopped by such ethical considerations? It was not possible to use it even in extreme situations, like with a starship marooned in the Delta Quadrant?

It is super awkward at the best, and their plots really didn't require this tech to be better than anything in the setting before and after it used by anyone.

Sisko said "seen", wasn't implying that the war during the founding of the federation made it all the way to Earth either. Relatively speaking, the Klingons conquered just as much if not more than what the dominion did.

Like I said in the Gen Trek forum several weeks back, the Romulan and Dominion wars were like World Wars. The Klingon conflict was like the War of 1812.

(I was quite proud of myself for that one. Even patted myself on the back.)

I love the concept...but honestly even the scope of the Romulan War is a bit of an unknown.

That said, I know what you're going for here, and I think it's sound. This was a messy, short-term conflict...not a full-blown "World War."

Makes sense.

Actually, yes, he was implying exactly that. Because the concept of Earth "seeing" a war like that, makes no sense otherwise. If the war - any war - never reached Earth, then by definition, Earth did not see it!

Relatively speaking, the Klingons conquered just as much if not more than what the dominion did.

Also incorrect.

You pretty much have to give the benefit of the doubt and latch onto every generous or exaggerated dialogue, assume it's all true. Then you can say "yay!! no canon violations". Except the story isn't realistic to any serious viewer anymore.

How would they have gotten that information?

Also incorrect.

Seen in the federation news service. Like saying "United States hasn't seen a war like this since Iraq". Doesn't mean that the Iraq war made it to the shores of the United States.

Or you can latch on to any throw-away line from scripts 20-50 years ago that support your own position, and assume those are true instead. Then you can say "booo!! Terrible canon violations" Except that kind of thing doesn't matter to any serious viewer.

See how that works?

How would they have gotten that information?
I don't know; how did a relatively fresh and primitive space faring species develop this completely amazing super tech, but way more advanced civilisations with much more resources, experience and time never did? Not, the Dominion, not the Borg, not the Kelvans etc. No one ever at anytime anywhere?

No, but the quotes you provided specifically mentions Dominion troops landing on the planet.

You're assuming each species share the same technological ambitions.

But was also talking about war which one would expect to be mostly in space throughout the federation where people would not be able to see with the naked eye without a news feed. So it makes more sense he was talking about see as in what people would see on the news and its affect on the citizens from casualities.

Can throw this out there again
