Loved it...fun, quirky, lots of heart, just like the subject character. Reminded me of a quick TNG episode, and in a good way. Was smiling throughout!

Thought the CGI pass by the Discovery in the opening was gorgeous. Way better than anything we saw in S1.

Queue complaints:
1. Non-canon dilithium crystals
2. Swearing
3. Sensors not reporting an intruder
4. Too much humor
5. Not enough humor
6. Not real Star Trek

It's listed under the "Clips" tab on the mobile app, for anyone watching that way.

Did we even see her mom before this? I can't think why they would need to hide the actress's face.
She wasn't seen before, and the actor Mimi Kuzyk has a 'starring' credit here. I presume she's in Season 2 proper but they couldn't get her in. We also learn that Tilly has siblings.

I felt it was confusing. We went from the quarters to the mess hall suddenly for no reason. It was after the first time that we learned about the alien friendly. The closed captioning was a disaster with it missing huge chunks of dialog and skipping ahead to the end.

Yes, I know Star Trek science can verge on the magical, like the holodecks. This episode took a giant leap forward into the magical and weird with a species being born with a planet and they having a twinned relationship. My eyes are crossing in disbelief.

Tilly is one of the few characters I liked from the first season, so I enjoyed seeing her here.

I think you might have have missed that the twin thing might, actually I think it was, a religious belief that she had and felt very strong about. It wasn't a science aspect.

That said I enjoyed the episode a lot. Mary Wiseman was really good as was the other actress. Nice information on Tilly's family, background, and on the alien race. I liked the picture of her and Michael on her desk. It being short in terms of time was felt I think. It moves very quickly. It doesn't waste time so there aren't long transitions between areas since they're not needed. We move from a location to the next cause that's where the characters needed to be but it's not confusing.

I think they could have easily expanded this by another 15 minutes. What I do also think is that they could easily pick where this leaves off in season 2. There are a number of things they could go back to if needed. If you want more background you just look at this episode.

Light weight but that's what they were going for and it came out pretty good.

If Season 1 wasn't your cup of tea, I think you might find this more to your liking.

That was sweet. A little thin, but I guess with 15 minutes what can we expect? Still, I liked the relationship between Tilly and the runaway. It's nice to see characters getting along in this version of Trek.

I do wonder just how far transporters can send people in the Discoverse. Weren't they hanging out in the middle of nowhere, or did I miss something at the start of the episode?

I’m always happy to get new Star Trek. Story was decent but improbable. Loved the opening scene in the shuttle bay and Tilliy wrestling with confidence and doubts about her future.

Nitpicks:
Hard to overlook the only source of food on the ship breaks down and no one showed up to fix it or Tilly not calling the bridge the minute she realized an intruder with unknown intentions is running around. I could have sworn they were in deep space but Tilly makes an unathorized transport of some one to some where. Both are likely court martial offenses. I’ll overlook all this because I love Trek and Tilly!

I went over the their Facebook page, (cause I haven't seen it loaded on the All Access main page or in the Discovery page), to see they have the link, which they do. I click on the link. Instead of it taking me to the show, it took me to my account page. Cause of that, it seem to me, only those whom payed full 10 dollars only get to watch the Star Trek: Short Trek.

You have to be a subscriber but you don’t have to have the $10 version. I’m on the $6 version and I was able to watch.

it was a fun little minisode. gave it a 7 for what it was. as ive never rated a mini-episode, not really sure how to scale it.

For those who like Michael Burnham, there is a photo of Burnham with Tilly in her quarters. It is next to the planet globe and the medal.

We got to see the insect head alien again, with the group entering the mess hall.

Found it, thank to someone over Twitter telling someone where to look. He or she said on the Discover oage, click full episode, go down until you see Tilly, click it and go down and you will see the thumbnail for the episode.

It is hard to quantify. These episodes can't go as in-depth but I enjoyed it, I recommended it to non-fans of the show upthread, and it hit all the right notes... but this isn't the type of thing that meant to pack a punch (which is possible, even at 15 minutes). I like that Tilly feels the same way about her mother that I feel about my father (even to this day). So it's relate-able. And the tone is quirky, which I like.

Based on the way I just described "Runaway", I'd say it feels like an... 8? Yeah, I'll go with an 8.

A little too wink-wink, "come on, let certain things slide!" to be a 9.

I liked it, made me smile several times.
Would have been a great 30 minutes episode also.

The next one for November looks a bit too grim though.
:techman:
